Artist's Choice: The painting uses soft colours and the strokes are smooth and delicate. This communicates calmness and peace. We see the falling leaves frozen in time depicting a moment of quietness and relaxation. But the buildings in the back take us to LA, Sally's home.

She looks at the hardships that people have to face in crossing the borders and the conditions that they have to survive under, just so that they can ensure better lives and more liberties to their families.  This particular artwork is inspired by a story of two undocumented teenagers crossing the Mexico-USA border.

Artist's Choice: In this artwork, the visual element that stands out most is the use of the colour, and in particular, the colour blue. Generally, blue always symbolises the feeling of loneliness, sadness, and despair; and that is what this artwork conveys. To add to this feeling further, the curled up positions of all the people emphasises the cold, desolate feeling. It is often the case that parents have to work minimum wage jobs that require endless hours of work just so that they can earn enough to send their children to school, in hopes for a better future for them. This painting has been inspired by a real life story, as well. 'Francisco Preciado migrated to the United States at age 6, entering with his parents under a program that provided agricultural jobs to Mexicans. He took a job as a groundskeeper at Stanford University. His son Frankie later graduated from the school'.

Artist's Choice: By putting Frankie's father in the background, the artist is making a direct connection to the reality that parents, and immigrant parents especially, often put their own desires, ambitions, and lives in the background and their children's futures on the foreground so that they can create a better future for them. The emptiness of the school suggests that it is past the time that school closes. By showing  Frankie studying on the bench regardless shows that children that come into the country also have to work much harder to be able to achieve as much as the people born in the country, and that they have to put in a lot of dedication and commitment to succeed.

This artwork has become increasingly prevalent to the events occurring in real life, as the I.C.E has become more brutal with immigrant families and the US has increased their measures to prevent illegal immigration.

Artist's Choice: The overwhelming use of the white colour in this artwork creates an unwelcome, uncomfortable, lonely, and bleak feeling, which is only reinforced by the two armed guards standing in the background and the red buildings lined behind them. This simulates the environment that many immigrants have to live and survive in, and the emotions that they experience in their journeys. The two guards in the distance represent how there is always someone watching you to see if you fail or make a mistake, and that this presence can be omnipresent for immigrants trying to make a living in America.

It is not just the language barrier that often separates these children from the others, but the perceived cultural differences and the indescribable yet suffocating feeling of being 'different' and away from home, where you truly belong. This can be a difficult time for so many children, who are already adapting to being in such a new environment with nobody they know.

Artist's Choice: The main visual elements used in this artwork are the use of background and foreground to separate two groups of individuals. Artist's Choice: the colour pallet for this painting is darker than usual, representing the obscure and tense ambience. The women are working while a man looks at them through the door in an intimidating way, showing us the vulnerability of the women in the university. This is actually an animation that starts with a nice forest and ends up with a dry and burnt one. This is a representation of the consequence of climate change: the destruction of nature. Also, the ones looking at the fire are kids, this is to portrait that they are the ones that are going to suffer the consequences of climate change.
