Hello world, this blog is dedicated to any readers seeking forth information on Thailand's progress and goals in trying to improve Good health and well being, the 3rd most important long term goals of the UN according to their Sustainable

1.We need Thailand to focus on healthcare. Not just because of it's membership as a UN member but because of the problems it still has within it's own people. They have mad leaps of progress in healthcare ever since they introduced the Universal Coverage Scheme (UCS), a healthcare policy allowing for up to 98 percent of Thais to be insured. This is not not enough however, as even with universal coverage, inequalities persist. The distribution of health workers and other resources vary across geographic areas. In addition, Thailand has two other health financing schemes and the benefits differ from one another. For example, spending for the elderly under the Civil Servant Medical Benefit Scheme is four times higher per patient than those eligible only for the UCS. as Thailand still has poor areas and places where there may be no hospitals or scarce resources. Thailand would need to fill these gaps for the advancement of the country's well being.

2.Thailand would likely face challenges trying to apply the UCS better to the rural and poor areas geographically as well as trying to make it more efficient, to get more for less money, particularly with the introduction of new technology and new drugs)especially with MRSA).

3. Thailand's main focus currently is not on health which can be an issue with overuse of antibiotics, the poor missing proper care etc.

4 Try and alleviate other problems such as poverty and help raise awareness of the growing health problem

1. forms of poverty eradication are still one of the greatest humanity encounters. While the number of people living in poverty has dropped by more than half over the year since last year, between 1990 and 2015 from 1.9 billion to 836 million people, many of whom still struggle to meet basic human needs. Worldwide, over 800 million people live in less than $ 1.25. Many lack access to adequate food, drink clean water and sanitation. Rapid economic growth in many countries, such as China and India, has helped alleviate poverty. But progress is not equal. Women are often poorer than men because they have no access to paid jobs and education. Progress is still limited to other regions, such as South Asia and South Sahara, which account for 80% of those living in extreme poverty and extreme weather.
2.Thailand economic grew at an average annual rate of 7.5% in the boom year of 1960 to 1996 and 5% flooring the Asian crisis during 1999-2005, creating million of jobs that help poor million of people in Thailand out of the poverty. In Thailand there are now more children that are now getting more years of education, and virtually everyone is now covered by heath insurance while other home of social security have expanded.
Poverty has declined over the last 30 year from 67% in 1986 to 7.2% in 2015 during periods of high growth and rising agricultural prices. However the poverty continue to pose the significant challenges.
Poverty in Thailand is primarily a rural phenomenon. As 2014 over 80% of the country 7.1 million poor live in rural areas. More over 6.7 million were living in 20% above the national poverty line and remained weak to falling back into poverty.

3.Volunteer groups give musical instrument ,old clothes and stationary
to poor people. They pay school free for people who can't went to school they build garden and library at school to improve conditions
of children studying they give they give a change of new jobs.

4.They need to investment and improved education. Just giving money directly to them will not solve anything. The important thing is to make investments for their education, making them easier to find work. Poverty is not natural. It is made by human and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. To overcome poverty, the power of a charitable organization alone isn’t enough, we need to help them.

After the 1997 economic crisis, the government started incorporating Sufficiency Thinking into national development plans and operations. Regulatory reform in business and nance succeeded in protecting Thailand from global crises in later years.

Thailand should focus on this goal because 12.6% of Thailand's population is below the poverty line. Poverty has been reduced from 21 percent in 2000 to about 12.6 percent in 2012 . With its firm commitment to the MDGs and South-South Cooperation, Thailand has become an increasingly active global development partner.

“To remain competitive, Thailand has to embark on extensive reform of the economy to lay down a future for the country in areas such as infrastructure and advanced manufacturing,” said Kobsak Pootrakool, Vice Minister for the Office of the Prime Minister. “At the same time, ensuring that the grassroots can reap the benefits of development.”

Here are some of Thailand’s best practices that proves Sufficiency Thinking is crucial for decent work and inclusive growth:
      - OTOP For most people in rural communities, decent work means being able to generate income and stay with the family. OTOP, short for one tambon (sub-district) one product, answers their needs.
Most OTOP products are the fruits of women’s groups’ labour. The products were based on joint decisions, locality-specific expertise such as handicrafts and food preservation, cost-effectiveness and careful risk analyses. Group work also strengthens goodwill and camaraderie to help them overcome other community concerns together.

-CHUMPHON CABANA HOTEL The hotel grows its own rice and organic vegetables as well as raises hens for organic eggs. The hotel makes its own organic fertiliser to nourish its gardens and produces herbal shampoo and soaps for the customers. Used cooking oil is turned into biodiesel for hotel use. Using appropriate technology based on natural ways, wastewater is treated in multiple ponds, the organic matter being absorbed by water plants. Sufficiency thinking at Chumphon Cabana saves jobs while going organic improves staff health. Inclusive decision-making also boosts staff morale and sense of ownership.

So what is gender equality?

Gender equality is met when women and men enjoy the same rights and opportunities in society and needs of women and men are equally valued. Gender equality is measured from the representation of men and of women in a range of roles.

In Thailand, gender inequality is still at large with the males having more power than women in most jobs. Thailand is ranked in 69th place in the Gender Inequality index.

Jobs where men are more superior in numbers are:

Agricultural (55.8%)

Mining and quarrying (83.6%)

Public administration and defence (64.0%)

Water supply (69.7%)

Construction (84.6%)

Transportation storage (86.9%)

Information and communication (64.8%)

Professional, Scientific and technical (52.4%)

Administrative and support services (57.7%)

Electricity, gas, stream supply industry (81.17%).

These show the percentage of males in each industry in the year 2011.

Women were, in contrast, occupied in the industries/occupations such as:

Accommodation and food service (64.2%)

Financial and insurance activities (55.5%)

Real estate activities (55.7%)

Education (61.1%)

Human health and social work (75.9%)

Activities of household employers (82.1%)

Activities in international organisations (100.0%)

Other service activity industry (55.3%).

Even in the workplace, males and females both have roles to play. There is still a stereotype that men are stronger and better leaders while women are relegated to cooking, teaching and house work. There is still a lot of work to be done until 2030 but we need to start now.

Full of pollution? This is a huge problem in Thailand nowadays. How can we fix this problem? You can help it by reducing the pollution, the easiest one is using less plastics, for example, bring your own fabric bags to the supermarket, using hybrid cars(use gas instead of oil) which can make the oil last longer in this world. Another easy one is turn off the lights and air conditioners when you are not using them.

Why should we do these things? Does it actually help us? If we did not have this much pollution, what is going to be better? We have more fresh air, more trees, less diseases, less cancer people as well. And all countries need to collaborate to achieve this goal: to protect, preserve and protect natural resources and nature itself.
- There are some places in Thailand such as Tiger Temple. There people keep tigers and invite tourist to come and feed/pet tigers. People pay money but there are risks that owners will buy more animals and trap them in the centers. The baby tigers are taken from their mothers and being used to entertain visitors. In nature, tigers are wild animals and shouldn't keep as a pet.

Why should Thailand focus on this goal?

Thailand is the home to 65 million people, the majority of whom live in rural, agricultural areas. The country is the world’s largest exporter of rice, and is often called “the rice bowl of Asia.” Agriculture employs 49% of the population and contributes 10% of GDP. Tourism and fisheries abound on Thailand’s 3,200 kilometers of coastline and play important roles in the economy, providing 6% of GDP and a livelihood to 10% of the population. The capital city, Bangkok, is home to 15% of the country’s population and serves as the economic, political and social center not only for Thailand but for the greater Mekong region, giving it the status of a global city. Climate change threatens all three important sectors of Thailand’s economy: agriculture, tourism, and trade.

What problems does Thailand face in relation to this goal?

Reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change state that “increases in sea level are consistent with warming. Global average sea level rose at an average rate of 1.8 mm per year over 1961 to 2003 and at an average rate of about 3.1 mm per year from 1993 to 2003.” The consequences of sea level rise are abundant: many millions of people will be subjected to floods, coastal ecosystems will be destroyed, and sea level rise will exacerbate freshwater constraints due to salinization of estuaries and groundwater supplies. Southeast Asia is not exempt from these dangers.

The IPCC warns that “the mega deltas of Asia are vulnerable to climate change and sea level rise that could increase the frequency and level of inundation…due to storm surges and floods from river drainage putting communities, biodiversity and infrastructure at risk of being damaged. This impact could be more pronounced in megacities located in mega deltas where natural ground subsidence is enhanced by human activities, such as in Bangkok.”

`

What is Thailand doing to tackle this goal?

Thailand signed in global environmental organization to stop climate change. Also, they made plan too. First, Thailand signed the Kyoto Protocol. Kyoto protocol is an international treaty which extends the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that commits State Parties to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, based on the premise that global warming exists and human-made CO2 emissions have caused it

Thailand Climate Change Master Plan (2012-2050) is being developed by the Office of National Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning. It is a framework of Integrated policies and action plans relating to climate change.

The objective is to support climate change preparedness initiatives so that they are in line with Thailand’s economic and socio-cultural contexts as well as sufficiency economy philosophy.

The target is that Thailand is able to continue its economic, social, and environmental developments in accordance with sufficiency economy philosophy and to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, without impeding the country’s GDP or reducing its growth of developmental capability and competitiveness.

Also, there is more things that Thailand did it.

Develop a national strategic response to sea level rise for the coastal area.· .

Establish cooperation frameworks, training, technology transfer, surveillance of climate change in case of sea level rise, and the sharing of experiences to assist the government in establishing preparedness response to climate change.

Develop computer-based information systems covering the results of surveys, assessments and observations in order to minimize the impact of sea level rise resulting from climate change. Imformation by (https://lcs-rnet.org/climate_change_policy/thailand/)

Disaster prevention experts are now advocating the construction of a 100 billion baht (3 billion USD) flood prevention wall to protect Bangkok. Initial designs call for a wall 80 kilometers long, and three meters higher than the moderate sea level, to be built 300 meters offshore to allow mangrove forests to serve as a natural barrier against coastal erosion. The wall’s construction would demonstrate Thailand’s need to adapt to environmental changes that threaten its population and economy.

What recommendations would you have that would help Thailand reach this goal

One of the main pollution from Thailand vehicle traffic, Bangkok is encouraging commuters to leave their cars at home by improving its mass transit system, constructing bike lanes and pedestrian walkways, and implementing environmental fee surcharges on gasoline. Other recommendations in the Action Plan will promote efficient use of electrical appliances and air-conditioners, seek to reduce methane emissions through advanced waste management and campaigns for reuse and recycling, and also plant trees in public parks to serve as CO2 sinks.

However I believe that many pollution also do come from many buildings and constructions that did not go through a proper environmental assessment before its construction because it is not illegal to do so. Many buildings and factories are very costly to build and most of them doesn’t even contribute to making the city environmentally better, rather they make it worse by ways such as discharging wastewater directly into the canal. Therefore, I think there should be a proper environmental assessment before any constructions take place.

Another great suggestion is to use a search engine called “Ecosia” whenever you want to use google because Ecosia uses its ad revenue to plant trees.

Life Below Water. - Conserve and sustainable use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Over fishing
Over fishing is when we fish large quantities of fish too quick and we cannot eat all of them. Over fishing can cause due to people demanding for more than they need. The methods that fishermen use for fishing can be very harmful to the environment. One way is by catch, by catching is when they use a net and bring up all the fish, even the unwanted ones, and then later on pick which ones are the one they are looking for and then leave the unwanted ones to die instead of putting it back in the ocean. Thailand mostly use by catch, which is not good for the environment and if we keep doing this, all the fish will be gone. Over fishing can cause all the live below water to become extinct and that's 90% of the lives on Earth. We can help reduce over fishing by only fishing the amount of fish we need and not wasting them.

Acidification

Ocean acidification is the chemical composition of the water that change over time. The PH of the water is decreasing and the water is becoming more acidic. Acidification is caused by the uptake of carbon dioxide. When water turn into rain, the rains will become acidic and the increased acidity of the seas and ocean can cause major problems for marine organism and ecosystems. Acidification affects many sea creatures, for example it can prevent building shells or the formation of corals. Decrease the amount of factories could decrease the acid rain!

Waste in the ocean
Waste in the ocean is all about garbage and trash that are throw in the water. 8 million tonnes of plastic waste end up in the ocean every year. Thailand waste come from the land or by river that connect to the sea. Human activity are likely to be the main cause of it. There are case in Thailand zoo such as turtle eat trash, turtle cannot see the different from the trash and food that make the turtle eat the trash and die. That also include most of the sea animal in the world trash affect how they live and they die. Thai government make people clean the beach and river to prevent this from happening. By having people create a cleaning activity Thailand can reach the goal of cleaning the beach and river..

IN THE SCHOOL.

As a school, the least thing we can do is to follow the 3Rs.

Reducing, Reusing and Recycling go hand in hand to help us all improve our environments and the marine life.
