The world is changing in ways never seen before. Humanity is up against a global problem that threatens our way of life. In this series, Ade Adepitan travels to places on the frontline of climate change to see how life is being affected right now. But he'll also scour the globe for solutions to climate change - the natural and technological fixes that can help us slow climate change and adapt to the changes already taking place. Ade begins in the stunning Solomon Islands, and then travels down the east coast of Australia - from the Great Barrier Reef to Tasmania. He sees missing islands in the Solomon Islands, learns about the 'feminisation' of green turtles and comes face-to-face with the terror of a bushfire. But he also finds hope in a visit to Tasmania, a region that is already entirely powered by renewable energy. A BBC Production.

In Fall 2022, this URE was designed for students to explore Machine Learning (ML) who had no prior experience and wanted to know more about ML and data science. The purpose was to expose students a basic understanding in ML and to ultimately tackle a research question in Health Diagnostics in the area of Radiology for Spring 2023. Students learned about the differences between Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning. The students worked on code created in Python on Iris Data set with K-Nearest Neighbor. They modified the code to see how K-Means, Support Vector Machines and Decision Trees behaved on this set. During the Spring of 2023, three students learned about Deep Learning and Neural Networks as the next phase of the research experience. They read research articles on COVID-19 to understand the types of lung abnormalities that may occur as a result of virus, read radiology reports on how radiologists identify ground glass opacities and consolidation, and an article that tied ML with health diagnostics to gain an understanding of the impact ML can have on health diagnostics. Their research question was how can Deep Learning and Neural Networks can be used to perform lung segmentation on a CT scan, then proceed to create a Region of Interest to find and identify lung abnormalities of a patient with COVID-19. Students in Psychology Club and Psi Beta (the national honor society for Psych students at two-year colleges) complete research projects either through their classes or through club activities and analyze and present the data. Students created a python code that created an animation to simulate the flight path. They also build a multipiece, rotating model where the globe is sliced along the flight path. This group presented at ANAS Annual Conference and were recognized as the Outstanding Student Presentation.
