When the story sets, Hero meets Claudio, and the two are in love. However, Don John does not wish for the two to get married. After Don John's first attempt to break the two apart, Hero and Claudio are set to be married. But after Hero gets framed for cheating, Claudio destroys the entire wedding, and Hero is said to be killed. It is found after Hero faked her death that she is innocent, and Claudio is heartbroken. Hero then reveals that she isn't dead, and the two get married. This storyline is significant because it is the main plot for the entire story.

Who were Beatrice and Benedick, and why was their story significant?

When the story sets, it displays Beatrice and Benedick as opposites, yet the same person. They both are very quick and witty, but appear to participate in constant arguments. Throughout the story, it is revealed to each other that they love one another. This changes both of the character's behaviors towards one another, therefore changing the influence of the characters on the plot. Once they both confront each other about their love, Beatrice, who is still very upset at the injustice towards Hero, instructs Benedick to kill Claudio. Benedick refuses, but once the conflict is resolved the two are openly in love.

Who is Don John, and why is his role significant?

Don John has arguable one of the most important roles in this entire story: The antagonist. When the story sets, Don John, the illegitimate brother of Don Pedro, arrives with the rest of the company. However, it is later revealed that he despises Claudio because he blames Claudio for him not being able to overthrow his brother, and is plotting to destroy his relationship with Hero. He first tries to deceive Claudio by tricking him into believing lies about Hero. Then after that trick doesn't work, he made a plan to make it look like Hero was cheating. This time the plan worked. But soon after, it is found that he staged the entire thing, and Don John is arrested.
