Some delegates opposed to the people electing their representatives in Congress because people elect lower houses and if they have too much power then people can easily accept harmful ideas. The text states,” we have experienced are the result of too much power for the people — like Shays’ Rebellion in Massachusetts, where it was proven that people are easily misled to accept harmful ideas circulated by conniving men.” This is why some delegates opposed to the people electing their representatives in Congress.

2. Some delegates want the people to elect their representatives in Congress because they believe the government won’t long last without people’s support. Government needs people support. The text states,” Passionately defended that the larger and more powerful chamber or house of Congress should be directly elected by the people because without support of the people, no American government will last long. Incidents like Shays’ Rebellion are proof of the need for more democratic government, instead of proof that we need to limit democracy.” This is why some delegates want the people to elect their representatives in Congress.

1. The main argument used to justify allowing the slave trade is that the states are the best judge of what is best for them, that individual states should decide if they want to continue to trade slaves or not. Mr. Ellsworth (Connecticut) said he "Supported allowing the slave trade to continue because states were capable of debating the wisdom and morality of slavery on their own. While he did believe that the states are the best judges of the interests of their people."

1.	Some reasons delegates had for thinking state legislatures would be best qualified to select the president are the legislatures would select the candidate the people want, to retain the election by the people. Some did not trust the people to elect a candidate for president because of large countries taking most votes and the people voting for someone who tricks them into thinking one thing but does another once president, and how some would elect someone from the region, regardless of qualification.2.	Some objections delegates had to allowing the state legislatures select the president are the increasing power in government which can go unchecked, that his is a democracy and the people need to have some vote within, some legislatures would pick only what is best for there state not the nation, and the most important reason, state legislatures would only pick men who promised to serve the states agenda without much motivation to pick a candidate committed to serving the national interest, meaning thee not truly devoted to running the nation but only to be the face people put the united states to.

Some reasons delegates had for thinking state legislatures would be best qualified to select the president are the legislatures would select the candidate the people want, to retain the election by the people. Some did not trust the people to elect a candidate for president because of large countries taking most votes and the people voting for someone who tricks them into thinking one thing but does another once president, and how some would elect someone from the region, regardless of qualification. 2.

1. Southern were okay with included slaves when calculating representation, they “were valuable, as they increased the value of land and exports— both of which help to feed and support an army”

2. Pennsylvania questioned the proposal by asking important questions such as “Are they admitted as full citizens? Then why are they not admitted as citizens equal to white citizens? If they are still admitted as property, then why is other property not factored into representation?” These were good questions to ask as it could result in further reconsideration of the 3/5ths compromise.
