Having structured time management and study strategies can ease some of that stress and help you to study smarter, not harder. Here are some long-term and day-to-day tips and techniques for how to manage your time while studying.

Things to know about studying VET subjects at HPSHS:

• VET subjects are designed to train students in skills and knowledge required for the workplace. Therefore, the lessons will replicate the workplace environment as closely as possible and students will be expected to conduct themselves as they would in a workplace, i.e. by being prompt, following instructions, keeping work organised, communicating with colleagues (fellow students) and supervisors (the teacher).

• All VET qualifications are made up of Units of competency – students need to achieve all of the units of competency to be awarded the Qualification.

• If a student doesn’t achieve competency in all of the units, they will receive a Statement of Attainment showing the units they have achieved.

• Some units of competency are found in more than one qualification. If a student is studying or has already finished qualifications that have common units, they will be awarded credit for these units BUT this may impact accumulation of QCE credit.

• Some Applied subjects and VET qualifications that have similar content are considered by the QCAA as “duplication of learning”. E.g. Information and Communication Technology and Certificate II in Applied Digital Technologies*. This means that if you do both subjects, you can only earn QCE credit for one of them. • To study a VET qualification, students must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI), which creates an online record of an individual’s Australian training achievements, accessible for their lifetime…

If your student has an External Exam in the afternoon, they will need to be at their exam room by 11:45am.

For some students, studying and staying motivated comes easily — others may have to work a little bit harder.

• The illness, condition or event (including details of a diagnosis, where applicable)

• Date of diagnosis, onset or occurrence

• Symptoms, treatment or course of action related to the condition or event

• Explanation of the probable effect of the illness, condition or event on the student’s participation in the assessment.

Energy Queensland (Ergon Energy Network and Energex) offers trade based work experience placements for high school students currently in Years 10, 11 or 12, or students completing a relevant course through TAFE.

Work experience is a great way to gain insight into our everyday work and to find out about the various jobs that exist within our organisation. Trade based work experience may provide a pathway to an apprenticeship.
