Americans begin to realize what really was playing out in Vietnam and the kinda horrors going on. How quick Diem was to bury opposition and his swift removal of them. In 1965 carried out a referendum against Bao Dai, where he suspiciously won with 200,000 more votes then the people in Vietnam. He also had banned support of Bao Dai so the elections were definitely corrupt in some way. Constitution was changed to grant Diem ultimate power and consolidation over the south.
