At First the conch symbolized trust and would bring the group of kids back together but now the conch has turned into a disaster. There is also evidence of dominance because whoever has the conch has the right to speak. Also on page 76 the author writes, “This meeting must not be fun, but business." This shows Ralph’s desire for dominance. Zoom in on the word business… Ralph has decided to create a plan.

During the start of the book the conch symbolized a way of sharing thoughts so everyone could speak. But now Ralph practically hogs the conch and he is the only one speaking most of the time. "Ralph used the conch once more." I think this represents dominance of how the system of power has changed. --Noah K

This is shown when Ralph calls everyone with the conch and he knows that "this meeting must not be fun but business." The word business shows that Ralph has decided to create a plan. This shows dominance from Ralph. This is contrasted by when Ralph is speaking over everyone and he says "You voted me for chief. Now you do what I say."

At first, the conch was something that brought the group of boys together but now it asserts dominance and chaos. when Ralph is talking in the assembly, on page 82, Ralph feels like they, "we began well; we were happy" using the word "happy" shows that they used to have a friendship. this is significant because later on, the friendship disappears over people not doing things correctly. Because things are not being done correctly the "Boys stood up and shouted and Ralph shouted back." saying that they "shouted" reveals that when the once is used in an assembly it causes dominance and chaos and is breaking apart the fun and warmth that used to be between the people in the island.

According to page 78, it states that no one "said anything but the faces turned to Ralph were intent". this detail highlights dominance because Ralph made a plan and everyone is focused. Also, on page 81, it states that everyone voted Ralph "for chief [and] now you do what I say". This detail illustrates chaos because it shows that people trying to disobey his "orders". These details emphasizes how the conch can the change the view of the novel in many ways.

On page 32 At the beginning of the book, Ralph blows the conch, and " by the time ralph finished blowing the conch the platform was crowded." But then later in the book, on page 81, when ralph calls an assembly, the boys "shouted" and ralph needs to "override" them to keep order and this happens multiple times, showing that now the conch holds no power and that he needs to grasp and power to hold control over the assembly showing how the conch now symbolizes chaos.

When Ralph calls the meeting and he picks up the conch shell "no one said anything but the faces turned to Ralph were intent." This connects to my claim because it shows how one shell can silence a group of people. Then when the whole group is disagreeing Ralph says "You voted me chief now you do what I say" that shows that the conch which called the meeting in the end is a result of fighting and disagreement.
