Another exciting release for this year for me, is Splatoon 3. It just released today and I've yet to purchase it. The prior game- while fun, was a bit less of a sequel and more of an expansion upon the original game. Regardless, it's great to hear good things about this new entry, and the fact that it's becoming a more fresh experience.

That in mind, I learned that the lobby experience is much improved from Splatoon 2. The in game announcements showing off the stages for the period of that day is now able to be minimized. It was a forced cut scene before, but now it's much faster to get into the game without having to slowly click through dialogue that you don't feel like reading for the 70th time.

When it comes to just straight up news, I kind of just catch it when I catch it. But if it's something I'm actively interested in, and it crops up in my news feed, I'll stop what I''m doing to look into it before I forget.

For example, when I first saw the CNN Article by Ashley Strickland on the Perseverance Rover, I was playing something with a friend and completely stopped just to read the full article and send my friends a picture of the selfie they took, and had a small talk about it before getting back to the game. So my times of consuming news can be rather sporadic, as are a lot of things I do. But ultimately, I think I enjoy consuming news in a way like that. I don't always feel that I need to look into things on my own unless I'm doing research. So just looking at what crops up through my interests at any time of day is fine. But for the sake of clarity, I try not to indulge in anything like this in the deeper ends of the night. Emphasis on try.

When at home, I typically get my news from Youtube, Twitter, and Google. On the side of google, it's usually any articles I can find on a subject, or any general information. I typically don't look into the sources of the articles which is a bad habit that I've been starting to get out of due to my time in Fake News last year. However, the articles themselves are usually CNN, Space.com, New York Times, or IGN, depending on what I'm looking at or for. I usually get news from my phone, but my browser of choice Opera GX has relevant news and both gaming and international/national news on the "GX Corner," which is the central hub of the browser. I sometimes get news there.

Yes and no. I get a lot of perspectives and variety of news, but that's because I try to keep an open mind and seek out these other perspectives and opinions.
Why does this matter? How is your news consumption impacting you? Your community? Your world?

This is important so you don''t trap yourself in a biased "news bubble." By looking into new ideas, and perspectives, and learning new things instead of being fed the same things you already know or agree with. If you're complicit in that, then I suppose it's fine. So long as you are open to new ideas or perspectives when they come to you, and you aren't hurting anyone. By all means.

That said, I don't feel particularly affected myself, but I know for other people, it's the reason they may be mentally self-contained and ignorant to the world around them. Ignorant to the issues of the world outside their own head, and in some cases it brings about a person that needs humbling. Which is widely unfortunate.

After reflecting on your news consumption, do you believe your views are your own? Or are they created for you

Even with algorithms tailored to my interests and viewpoints, I do believes my views are mine, yes. They are created for me, sure. But they're created for me. Not anyone else. That said, how could they be anyone else's than my own? I'm the reason my news feed and consumption is the way it is, because algorithms learn from my activity and patterns. If I want to learn something new that doesn't entirely fall in line with my current interests and what I believe in, then I'm adding a new layer to said algorithms after indulging in these new things further.

One of my favorite quotes is, "The world ends with you. If you want to enjoy life, expand your world. You gotta push your horizons out as far as they'll go." and subsequently, "The world begins with you." So why should it be considered any differently because a machine is paying attention to me to create the most optimal experience for me? It's simply aiding me in my lack of expansion. I influenced it to be created in the way it is, so I can influence it to be created in a different way that expands my views. Even if searches are tailored, the internet isn't that difficult a place to navigate. You can find just about anything with a few searches in a few minutes.

Another quote that applies here is "Only by allowing strangers in, can we find new ways to be ourselves." Which can be reinterpreted into "Only by allowing new views and ideas into our minds, can we find new ways to express our own ideas and perspectives."

I feel like solely blaming the internet and algorithms for your news feed lacking in diverse content, is subconsciously admitting that you are not capable of viewing differing opinions in any other ways than if it's handed to you. Which again, that's fine if you're complacent with that. But you shouldn't go complaining about the status of your feed in that case. It's counter-intuitive and counter-productive, and shows how shallow you're willing to go for new things. As negative an opinion that may sound, it for certain is my own.

Where did I go?
To find out who's behind the information at Space.com, like clockwork, I first checked the about page. I also looked into the Wiki for Space.com and the company that owns it.

What did I Learn?
I learned that Space.com was established on July 20th, 1999 in New York City. They're also owned by Future, which is a British media company that was founded in 1985.

Am I more or less likely to trust the source?
Neither. I still trust it pretty well. It's a reliable source of space centered information nevertheless.
