The potosi mountain was an huge source of silver for the spanish, such as the silver from the artifact above. in the mountain were as much as 60000 tons of silver. this absurdly large amount of silver needed a lot of manpower to extract so the Spanish sent many Africans and indigenous people to mine it under gruelling conditions that led to many deaths. In Asia and especially china the silver was in high demand. The Spanish had gained a commodity that the Chinese desired and in exchange could obtain Chinese luxury goods. The trade of silver was a huge part of Spanish trading, however due to the large masses of silver circulating there was inflation. however because of the silver trade the Spanish economy was able to grow.
