My name is Mengesha Wasie Tegegne, and I am currently working as a lecturer at Kebri Dehar University in the College of Natural and Computational Sciences, specifically in the Department of Biology. I have extensive experience in academia and administration, having held multiple leadership roles at Kebri Dehar University. As the Quality Assurance Director, I developed and implemented policies to enhance academic program quality, monitored processes for effectiveness, and collaborated with stakeholders to ensure compliance with best practices. Previously, as the University-Industry Linkage Director, I successfully coordinated a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dire Dawa Forest Research Institute, facilitated the plantation of 400 dryland-resistant trees, and conducted entrepreneurship and agronomic training for over 90 individuals, including youth and small enterprises.

During my tenure as Dean of the College of Dryland Agriculture, I founded the Agro-business and Value Chain Management Department, the first of its kind in the Somali region and led community-based field projects to support agro-pastoralists through training and resources. I also conducted leadership training for faculty and promoted sustainable urban farming practices. As the Head of the Rural Development and Agricultural Extension Department, I established departmental committees, innovated staff profiles, and promoted top-performing students and lecturers to leadership roles.

Earlier in my career, I served as a Lecturer, where I provided advanced lectures and academic counseling with a focus on supporting female and disabled students. Additionally, as a Co-operative Legal Support Officer, I scaled up cooperative initiatives and provided training to enhance members’ understanding of legal frameworks.
