#1. Just as many legal issues seem to emerge from parents that are very involved in their children's lives as those that are minimally involved.

#2. Oftentimes one of the biggest challenges when situations become legal in the public school system is when the media becomes involved. 

#3. The key to managing discipline related legal situations is having a detailed and precise schedule for handling situations that is campus-wide and well-enforced. This supports fair and equal treatment. 

#4. Campus security and safety is always at the utmost concern, but it seems to be a growing issue despite efforts. Students also tend to fight safety protocols. 

#5. Moving parts are the hardest part of a high school campus. Different teachers hold different biases and interact with students differently. Email and text counseling is growing in popularity and it can cause a security and confidentiality breaches, unlike traditional face-to-face counseling. 

Clients must be made aware multiple times of the risks of technology. Self-harm protocols are typically quite serious with reporting. Many times, the school counselor is the first point of contact learning about these dangerous behaviors. When these events occur, intervention is a delicate and important step to recovery. Many students react very poorly to intervention, especially after guardians have to be contacted (Simpson & Bore, 2008).  Because of these negative reactions, there is temptation for counselors to try to manage these behaviors on their own which is a dangerous and illogical decision. 

In fact, the ASCA has clear obligations of school counselors to report these behaviors if there is any danger to the counseled (White-Kress & Drouhard, 2006). However, some gray area can sometimes occur when students report self-harm suggestions about another student. These events must be investigated with extreme care. It is always a better situation to err on the side of too conservative, in order to preserve the safety of students (White-Kress & Drouhard, 2006). 

This will directly affect my future role, particularly if I can earn the role of a crisis counselor. I must be very keen on what I must disclose and the most appropriate and safe ways to handle the intervention.
