I live close to campus with my husband Patrick, daughter Catie, and mini-Schnauzer Twilight. I earned my PhD in the English Dept. here at the U and I have been here for 20 years now. I moved here in 2003 from Redondo Beach, CA.

My favorite pastimes are cooking and crafting (I like making stuff). I play in a regular D&D group that is campaigning right now in Icewind Dale. 

I am very involved at Capital Church in Salt Lake where I volunteer a lot and spend a lot of time :-)  I also have a very colorful religious past, having been part of many different religions before settling at Capital 15 years ago.

I attended high school in Ogden, Utah, but I grew up mainly in Corpus Christi, Texas. I grew up on the beach and spent a lot of my time growing up surfing and swimming. Now I like skiing, mountain biking, and all the things the mountains offer.

I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada and moved here to SLC in Fall of 2020. Growing up around Lake Tahoe, I fell in love with the outdoors through mountain biking and hiking. Moving here has only expanded that for me. In the summer, I love to spend most of my free time either on my bike or hiking up a new peak. Come winter, I'm still up in the mountains either in the ski resorts or the backcountry taking in the views. 

I am pursuing mechanical engineering and an emphasis in sustainable energy because of the love of the mountains and world around us that I've developed throughout the years. Although the work is often arduous, I still find it extremely fun and engaging to learn.

My family have always been big Marvel fans, so it'll be interesting to dive into some of my favorite movies with some more depth! I really enjoy watching movies and TV shows. My main genres I watch are comedy, horror, and romance. I do enjoy superhero movies, though comedies are my favorite. 

As can be seen by the picture, my wife and I love to travel and have recently returned from Thailand. One of our bucket lists goals is to travel to all seven continents.

I have been a short track speed skater for the past 7 years but have been taking a break from it to focus on my studies.

 I play several instruments, mainly guitar, piano, and vocals. I sometimes dive into my own songwriting, which is fun for me trying to get my ideas down and seeing things come together. 

Going along this, I really enjoy listening to music. I listen to a diverse range of genres, ranging from Metalcore, Alternative Pop, Grunge, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Hardcore Beatdown, Progressive Metal, Acoustic, EDM, and more. 

I also love watching sports, especially American Football and Soccer. I've been recently watching a lot soccer, mainly Premier League, which has been quite exciting especially getting back into the sport after watching the world cup. Lets go Chelsea! (Doesn't look good for us at the moment haha)

I recently returned from a trip to Greenland where I was completing drill and blast training at the Greenland school of Minerals and Petroleum. I also delivered a seminar to the students in Greenland about mine rescue and our competition mine rescue team here at the University of Utah.

I have seen some of the Marvel movies, but it should be interesting to view them through an academic lens rather than as a consumer of entertainment.
