How has your understanding of your role in interdisciplinary care changed and give an example.

I simply thought I would only be taking x-rays of patients where I may sometimes work with one or two other healthcare workers. My views on my profession changed from working individually by myself to working with many other professions who are not only in healthcare but can be anyone that will be involved with the patient such as organizations and community centers.
An example would be I may be working in the OR before and during the procedure with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurse, etc. Post-op I may still be taking x-rays of the patient while working alongside the nurse, physiotherapist, general physician, occupational therapist, etc. working together finding ways to support the patient and meet their needs. Once I have finished taking the x-rays, the information would go to the radiologist and other support workers involved with the patient that may need the information to determine how they would next proceed with the patient.

Now that you have come to the end of the course, how has you understanding of Interprofessional Collaboration changed?

Now that we have come to the end of the course, I do feel that I have learned and know much more about Interprofessional Collaboration than I did at the beginning. Initially, I just thought it was only a few healthcare workers coming together in collaboration to help a patient get better and try to cure them. I did not realize how much the Domains of Care played a big role and it is not only healthcare workers involved. I only thought about the physical domain where our job is to try and cure the patient and the emotional domain where we only try to comfort the patient. I learned that there are other support systems and workers who cover the financial, spiritual, and psychosocial domain of care and not just healthcare workers. I also learned that it does not only affect the patient but the family of the patient is also involved. I never thought and understood how it can affect the family where they also need support during this difficult time. It is not only the patient who is going through the journey, but the family seeing how they are all connected.
