The economy is in shambles. The stock market has completely collapsed. Luckily my family’s able to stay afloat thanks to my husband's inheritance and the money we gained by selling our belongings. Life was so amazing a few years ago. The world was moving forward. New cars were being made, all the houses were getting electricity, new appliances were being manufactured. Now all that stuff is gone. We had to sell everything to ensure we could keep the house. We’re in need of as much money as we can get and yet I still can't get a job. Why? Just because I'm a woman. We gained the right to vote and yet we still can’t work. We worked while men were at war but suddenly they’re back and we’re not fit for the job anymore. Speaking of which, my husband seems to be really against it. He says we can't change the way the world works and the fights were all in vain, now he's mad about being wrong. He usually doesn't bring it up unless he's drunk. I was for the end of alcohol prohibition but after seeing how it affects my husband, I'm not too sure. There's some women’s organization against it. I'm thinking of joining.

Men in British Columbia were tired of the unfair treatment in the Unemployment Relief Camps. They went all the way to Vancouver in order to talk to PM Bennett. What was supposed to be a simple talk turned into a massive riot and apparently many were injured. I'm glad my husband never went along, especially since he agreed with all of their morals.

Dear, Stefan Almendinger

Hello my dear. Life hasn’t been the same since you died. I miss you more every day. Life has been quite hectic as of lately. I wish you were here to help us decide on what to do. There seems to be a lot of tension between French-Canadians and English-Canadians. Quebec is constantly changing and the desire to separate from Canada is growing larger. Gisela was talking about moving to Ontario to avoid any complications in case Quebec does separate. Being isolated from the rest of Canada won’t do us any good, and living in a completely French-speaking country would be really difficult. She offered to pay to bring me with her but I'm far too old to be moving. She’s also been saying we should move because of the new people moving in. There's been a lot of Africans coming here. Apparently, they got kicked out of their own neighbourhood. I don't understand why they need to be put here. They don't seem well off. Their clothes are all dirty and broken and their hair is always a mess. Their old neighbourhood was inhabitable so they moved here while their land became industrialized. The government is giving them a hand yet they seem so sour about it. I’ll never understand those people.

										Sincerely, Ingrid Almendinger
