I want to be a nurse to spread love and learn things, but also to teach. I want to be a nurse for the pride of saving lives; even if it's a very stressful job, I want to do it because nothing it's better than seeing a child smiling after you make him feel better, and when you come home after a 8 hours shift, over the tireness, you feel happy and grateful, and that's the most inspireful thing for me.
What influenced me to choose this job are my experiences as a patient, i've been hospitalized a lot of times, and every time, the nurses were fundamental, they cared about my physical health but also about my mental health, they were always trying to make me laugh and keep my mood high, so i want to share all this love to others children in need.

You might have a fever"
"Yes I did, and I don't have a fever, my temperature is not the problem, I only want a painkiller, so I can sleep peacefully again"
I was about to answer when his doctor came in to talk to his caregiver, and I can't describe how much this relieved me, when a patient feels pain and is also nervous, all you wish to do is run.

In my first experience, I was assigned to the cardiology department, which was like a dream come true, because I've always been fascinated by the cardiovascular system and everything related to it. When I first walked in, I felt overwhelmed, it was so noisy, there were all kinds of noises, monitors ringing, babies crying and pump alarms ringing, after the first couple hours I started to settle down, and I experienced the best feeling ever, and when was time to leave I felt very sad, but also happy, because I knew that the next day I would be back there.

I'm going to talk about Grey's Anatomy, the most famous tv medical drama of all time.
This is the longest medical drama ever created, consists of 18 seasons, and more to go, and it talks about five med students who over the years become friends and share many good and bad experiences. As the seasons go by, we see the young doctors' lives evolve and become more and more complicated. Most of the time, the tv show is set in a Seattle hospital, where not only lives are saved, but where catastrophes and fun events also happen.

A good nurse is a professional who is empathetic, who has cold blood, a lot of knowledge and which is a good listener.
Also, a good nurse must have some specific skills to work perfectly: perfect manuality, problem solving, ability to work under stress and a lot of endurance. I think I will be a good nurse for different reasons, one above all is that I love this job, I love being sorrounded by children, I try to be very courious about everything so that every single thing I learn will be imprinted in my mind, which will reduce the risk of making mistakes. But it's not so easy to mantain the focus, because after 5/6 hours of running up and down, answering to every questions the families ask, the tiredness begin to be felt, and it's at this moment that you can make a lot of mistakes.

Write (or record) a 100 word description of one of your clinical tutors. What kind of personality did your tutor have? What did you admire about this person?

When I think of the tutors I met since starting, my mind goes right away to my favourite one, Biagia, one of the best cardiology nurses. When we first met, she wasn't very keen on tutoring me, because she was very angry about how the department was being managed, but that was still early days; after some time I learned how to keep up with her, and since then, whenever I knew I had to be with her, I was the happiest person on hearth. We started to develop not only a student-teacher relationship, but also a true friendship, also thanks to our little age difference, because she's only 28. She's a very strong and clever woman who can stand up for herself fearlessly, she knows how to do her job, and she's perfect at it. What I admire most of her is the sweetness she had with the little humans, and with me too, she taught and let me do almost everything, always being happy, joyful and sweet, even if the day we were having wasn't good.

I would like to be a tutor in future because I love spreading my knowledge and I love the thought that even a basic information could open a student mind. I love the idea of a student that follows what I do. Also, I would like to become a tutor for the possibility of learning something new from the students, because even if you study a lot, there's always something you don't know that maybe someone else know, and that someone may be a student; also, i love the relationship between the student and the nurse, it's something that you can only experience if you live it.

Pet visits
A lot of hospitals have experienced an improving of the patient's mental health after their pets came to visit them. Someone says that meeting their pet after long time is better than any medication; pets help people in hospitals to heal and recover faster, in fact, studies found out that petting animals can lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety. There's a woman with lung cancer thant didn't want to wake, speak and eat, but after her dog visit she looked happy, and started talking again. The negative thing out of this is that people think that pets may transmit disease to patients, but hospitals report no cases of patients being infected by animals; there's some hospitals that don't want to bring animals in,others that want, however it's important to have a policy and a list of guidelines before pets are allowed to visit.

One of the most amazing nurses I ever met and also one of the best tutors I ever had is Manuela, she works in neuro-oncology, we started working toghether when I was in my second year. She gave me her telephone number right to always stay in contact for everything, so our relationship started really well, she is one of the sweetest and most funny people I have ever met in the hospital. From the start she managed to teach me everything about the patients, the most used medicines, she also taught me how to communicate with children and their parents, how to manage the stress and how to manage difficult situations such as deaths. We stayed togheter for two months, in which she gave me total autonomy, so when I arrived before her in the morning I usually started preparing sterile fields to prepare the therapy later in the morning, I've been always preparing the material for taking blood samples for all the patients. In conclusion, this has been one of the most productive and beautiful experience I ever had since I became a student nurse, I wish to come back there one day, maybe already as a graduate nurse.
