"Song" and "Hope" are both about losing hope and letting go of someone or something that impacts the narrator's life. In "Song", the speaker talks about losing hope on living and telling her love that they need to let her go. And in "Hope" the speaker is losing hope and therefore having to let go of a close friend.

"Song" doesn't have a constant rhyme scheme like "Hope" which has a rhyme scheme of ABAB. The rhyme scheme helps the author portray the message, that even when someone is letting go, it can still be beautiful and poetic.
Examples:
-"With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget." (Rossetti)

- "False she was, and unrelenting;
When my last joys strewed the ground.
Even Sorrow saw, repenting,
Those sad relics scattered round." (Bronte)

There is a pause in the poem "Song" in stanza 1 line 7 when the speaker says,
"And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget."
Then in stanza 3 line 2 in "Hope" when hope itself is
"Still, in strife, she whispers peace."
The pause in both of the poems helps the author emphasize their message and the importance of the line. Showing in "Song" that it's okay for her love to let her go and forget her, and in "Hope" the speaker holds on before almost being forced to let her go.

Melody

Both poems have a special melody to them."Song" includes melody when it is being read because the major symbol of the poem is a song. When the narrator speaks, they speak almost as if they are singing a song. Melody is important in "Song" because the narrator says in the first four lines in the second stanza "I shall not see the shadows,

I shall not feel the rain;

I shall not hear the nightingale

Sing on, as if in pain"

When reading the lines, there is a specific beat to it and the melody and brings out the theme of the poem. In "Hope" the rhyme scheme contributes to the beat when reading. In stanza three when the narrator says "Like a false guard, false watch keeping,

Still, in strife, she whispered peace;

She would sing while I was weeping;

If I listened, she would cease.

that section is melodic because Hope is singing and you can hear the sound of her. The melody of the poem stays the same beat and the pace is at a constant rate because of the ABAB pattern.

In both poems, there are very important symbols that give the poem depth.
In "Hope", the hope that the speaker is actually trying to hold onto is their friend. Hope in this poem symbolizes their friend, that they are losing, therefore losing hope.
In "Song" there is almost a symbol in every line. Whether it be that the roses signify love and the cypress tree of funerals and death. Also, the nightingale can represent love, but also the danger of death. Twilight and the sunset also symbolizes the circle of life, or the afterlife (death).
