Based on my opinion, sculpture is one type of art that creates two-dimensional or three-dimensional abstract forms. These art works can be made by way of carving materials like stone or wood. Sculpture may be done out of casting metal or plaster as well. In most sculpture, it is evident that artist form a three-dimensional art. An example of shaping techniques in sculpture is when people add pieces of material like clay in order to model a form. In sculpture, all artworks are viewed as three dimensional, meaning it refers to the three dimension when it comes to space that includes length, width and height. When making a sculpture, the type of technique used depends on the material. An example is when sculptors use the technique of chiseling on a wooden material. Other techniques can be used like welding and molding when sculpting an artwork.

Kindersley, D, (2007), Sculpture, Available at: https://www.factmonster.com/dk/encyclopedia/arts-and-entertainment/sculpture (Accessed: 27 March 2019).

What I learned in the module about the form of sculpture as a Fine Art

During the module, the lesson thought me that the form of sculpture is fine art. Every sculpture created is considered as fine art which is beauty. Sculpture as fine art shows it has a value. The technique when making an artwork is the most enduring and greatest form of fine art known to man. Therefore, until today, while it is still continuing to evolve, sculpture is still being seen as a leading method when it comes to expressing and commemorating historical representatives.

In sculpture, principles which includes orientation, proportion, scale, articulation and balance are applied when making a subject. In orientation, it talks about how the sculpture has to create a sense of harmony between the viewer and its surroundings. With this, sculptors must work on a particular scheme for reference. Human figures are calculated with reference to four cardinal planes which are axiality, frontality, contrapposto and chiastic. In proportion, it discusses how the figure of one part is related to another. For scale, it applies how the size of sculpture is related to its surroundings. Articulation refers to how the figure and its parts are jointed and merged into a single form. Lastly, balance in sculpture is the physical stability of the subject.

When it comes to sculpture, there are two principal elements which are mass and space. Mass in sculpture discusses the bulkiness while space is about the air around the solid figure. These elements are used to assess and differentiate sculptures when looking at the components.

Classical Sculpture is designed into Greek and Roman Style. Greek Sculpture is classified according to Archaic, Hellenic and Hellenistic. while roman sculpture is divided into three forms which are statues, busts and architectural.

Greek Sculpture:

Archaic is rigid and stylized. Hellenic is about Ideal proportions, balance between muscle groups and orientation of limbs. Hellenistic shows severe expression, dynamic movement and open form

(N.D.).
