This book is about three kids, Kate, Michael, and Emma. They were taken away from the parents on Christmas when they were young, for unknown reasons. They've been in orphanages their whole life, moving from one to the next for lots of reasons. When they get to an orphanage, they find it really strange; they're the only kids there. The head of the orphanage, Dr. Pym, tells the kids that their parents are wizards, and they had to leave for unknown reasons. Throughout this book, the explore the wonders of "the orphanage," which is a castle. Trying to find their parents was the goal, once they had heard of this. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy/sci-fi.

This book is about a true crime that happened in VA. A teenager was killed and then the author decided, after he graduated, to write about it. I am recommended this book because I love mystery books and this one is super good. It is written so that you can see the different perspectives of the different people leading up to the murder. It is cool because the people are sort of not truly connected and then they all connect before the murder. It tells how the murder happened and then what happened after the body was found.

I am recommending this book Because it one of very few books I actually enjoyed. It is written in a non-traditional way. The story is told through transcripts, notes, and computer files, as well as the inner thoughts of a crazy AI. It is a sci-fi book in a trilogy with each book better than the last. It follows the story of a planet under siege and the survivors perspective as well as the invaders. Illuminae is one of my favorite books.

This book was written by Col. Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian astronaut to walk freely in space and a top graduate in the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School. He is one of the most accomplished astronauts with nearly 4,000 hours logged in space. He writes about the challenges in becoming an astronaut and real struggles encountered in space. He also talks about the lessons he has learned throughout his career. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to hear about the lessons an astronaut has learned throughout his life. Even if you are not particularly interested in space, the things he learned really make you think about your thought process.

The main character of this book, Miles, is a scrawny quiet boy who transfers to Culver Creek boarding school. He has a fascination with people's last word's, making him a bit of a loner. This doesn't stop him from making friends at Culver Creek, including Chip, the short sarcastic roommate who instantly befriends Miles. Chip introduces him to Alaska, a beautiful mature girl who catches the eyes of Miles. Throughout their year at boarding school they get in trouble and form close bonds with each other, however this all changes on one tragic night.

Their lives are seemingly very different, but as they get to know each other they realize they aren't all that different. She begins to pour all of her time and energy into finding out what caused Lucca to become mute. She later realizes that their beach house has a lot of unspoken secrets. As she is digging around one day, she comes across an old, vintage pen. She begins using it as a tool for her diary and soon realizes that the pen writes its own story. One that consists of a story between a brother and sister that lived in the same house during World War II.

Seabiscuit is about one of the greatest race horses of all time however, it is not limited to fans of horse racing but fans of nonfiction in general. It is about the Howard family during the height of the Great Depression in California. The Howard's and Seabiscuit begin by racing in small races but eventually end up racing in some of the most high stakes races in California. They face the effects of the Great Depression and the ups and downs of high stakes horse racing. I recommend it to fans of history because even though it is mainly about a horse it shows history through the eyes of the Howard's. The author is an incredible history writer if you are a fan of nonfiction.

The setting is the modern world but dried up of oil and minerals, making small quantities of fossil fuel extremely valuable.

This book comes in two parts, one part is about a young boy named Ben, and the other is about a young deaf girl named Rose. Ben grew up in Michigan and was raised with his mother. He was also born deaf in one ear. Not long before the book takes place Ben's mother had died in a car crash on a snowy night. This forced Ben to move in with his Aunt, Uncle, and cousins, after all, his father had never been in the picture. One night, he sees the lights on in the empty house, seeing as it was right next door, and goes to investigate. As the story unravels, Ben finds something he believes will lead him to his father, and before he knew it, an accident occurred making him deaf in the other ear. Wanting to find his father, he set out on a journey to New York, injury and all, to find his family. When it comes to part two, the reader follows Rose's story of her childhood and how she dealt with being deaf in a big city. Rose grew up just outside of New York City, and did not exactly have the easiest of childhoods. As the reader continues, the stories over lap and eventually their two paths meet.

This novel is part of the mystery genre, and I'm recommending it primarily for its intricate plot which has many facades. The mystery is set in Juarez, Mexico, with main characters Sara and Emiliano Zapata. Many girls go missing in this part of Mexico so it's considering as "just something that happens" when Sara's best friend, Linda, goes missing. Sara, however, does not let this go. She begins to search for clues that could lead to the kidnapping, effectively making her family susceptible to the cartel's wrath. At the same time. To make matters more complex for the Zapata family, Emiliano is being offered a job to sell product for a very wealthy man with many connections. The two young adults are forced to make decisions faced with the dilemma of morality.

A dystopian book from the 30s. This is the book that inspired George Orwell's 1984, and they are largely similar. The book is about a future where humans are grown in labs and put into castes based on how well they were manufactured. There are very funny rules to this society, some of which being: sexual partners must be changed every week or so, as commitment isn't a common thing in this society. They also get most of their enjoyment by taking pills, which are commonly abused but thought of as a normal thing. The story follows a somewhat rebellious man who ventures to one of the only places left on the planet where people are still "Wild" and where human life functions how it should. It's a fun and deep read, and I highly recommend it.

The book is about an elderly man named Santiago who keeps getting called throughout the book "The Old Man" who has gone 83 days without catching a fish. The book follows the Old Man throughout his relation with a local boy and his love of fishing. Santiago decides to go out to far sea and try to end his fish-less streak and catch one fish. While out on the sea, he dreams about a land filled with young lions on an African beach. Santiago before the trip, has had the boy visit him every day, and before he left, they talked about baseball, and the boy's favorite player: Joe DiMaggio. I recommend this book because of it's sense of adventure and Hemingway's style of book writing.

I think everyone who likes basketball owes it to Kobe to pay their respects and reading about him is a great way to do it. I haven't read to much of it yet but it is about Kobe Bryant and how he got to be as great as he is today. With a mix of working on his fundamentals, watching his fathers tapes, and playing 1 on 1 basketball matches he was a pro before he made the NBA.

A girl born with germophobia has this constant fear of a cut that hasn't healed because she continues to check on it. With her phobia always circulating around it distracts her from doing many other things. She copes with this phobia through her best friend, and while hanging out one day, they learned about a missing Dad of one of there old friends who is incredibely rich. She reconnects with this old friend who was very skeptical as they were coming to him at the same time during the missing of his father. This all turns into a short love story between them and the discovery of the father unexpectedly. This book is a banger.

If you grew up watching Aang on the Nickelodeon channel and you love the Avatar the Last Air Bender series, then you will love this book. Although Avatar has many comic books following the characters we already know and love, this book is something very new for the avatar crew. It is the first novel written for the franchise, it follows Kyoshi, one of Aangs past lives, who was a very unique Avatar. She grows up living on the streets in poverty, unlike any other avatar. To top off her barley staying alive, no one knows she’s the Avatar. The sages in charge of finding the Avatar mistake a young boy named Yun to be it. I loved reading this book because I knew Kyoshi was the Avatar and having the other characters not know was almost exciting. On a side note: We might be used to the lighthearted kids show that is Avatar, but do not expect that from this book. I was almost shocked by how different the fighting scenes were described. The protagonist lives in Oceania. In Oceania, the government controls all information and education. The protagonist's job is to edit old news reports to have them agree with future events. As time goes on, the protagonist begins to feel that he must break away from this heavily controlled world. Although he never acts out, his thoughts and dreams have the ability to be monitored.

The society of 1984 is a mockery and intensification of the Soviet Union. 1984 is part psychological thriller, part social commentary.

Long Range Patrol is a novel on the Vietnam War by Dennis Foley. The novel is gritty realistic fiction following Lt. Jim Hollister and his squad as they run operations through the jungles of Vietnam. The book goes into graphic detail when describing the horrible nature of death and the constant threat of it looming overhead. The author's aim with the book was realism, and most of those who review it believe he achieved that goal. The book is definitely dark and not fore those who can't stand reading graphic descriptions of gunfights and shrapnel wounds. The book begins with the squad preparing an ambush and some of the horrible conditions they had to suffer through, whilst going to the perspective of a VC officer leading his own squad. If you're interested in war and not afraid to read something dark, I'd definitely recommend this book.

Into the Killing seas is a really interesting, but kind of scary story. It follows two brothers during World War II, after they get separated from their parents. The end up on a ship full of soldiers trying to find their way back home. After only a day or two on the ship, it gets bombed by Japan and the ship goes under. While on the ship they met a really nice soldier that wanted to help them get home. While the ship is going under the two brothers and their soldier friend and a few others are the only one's to survive the bombing. While they are in the sea already tired, starving, and extremely dehydrated, they realize the have bigger problems. While floating on a small piece of broken ship, they start to see huge dorsal fins starting to surround them. I highly recommend this book because it is exciting interesting and a pretty quick and easy read.

Mindhunter was written by John Douglas, who helped create the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. Douglas worked by traveling to various police precincts that are the sight of violent crimes or serial killings. He looked at the way the victim was chosen and how the crimes were committed to gather a profile about the psychology of the individual who committed the crime. Then, the police backtrack from the profile to compile a list of suspects and then the criminal. During his career, he also interviewed many serial killers to see what experiences they have in common and how they became what they are. In the book Mindhunter, he talks about the most interesting cases he worked on, how he solved them by profiling killers, and what working on the case was like. People with an interest in true crime and psychology would find this book very interesting.

While on the tail, she meets Sam who is traveling to find his long lost brother.

Hate List follows a high school senior, Valerie. Valerie has always been a bit of an outcast, just due to her likings and her appearance, and she liked it that way. She was in a relationship with Nick Levil, an outcast kind of guy as well. They both strongly disliked the 'popular' crowd, and both Nick and Valerie were bullied for their interests. Valerie started a 'Hate List' as a way to release her anger, and soon shared it with Nick. They kept it a secret and used it as a way to keep track of who's hurt them and to get out their frustration. Valerie thought it was a great idea, until one day, Nick came to school and shot everyone on the list. Valerie also caught a bullet in the thigh and is now even more of an outcast, many blaming her because Nick committed suicide on the spot. This novel follows Valerie's experience on her first day back to school and her attempts to fit in all while being conflicted for her feelings about Nick. Anyone interested in suspense or books that have to deal with mental illness won't be able to put this book down.

(Hemingway served as the ambulance driver for the Red Cross on the Italian front too + some other characteristics as Frederick).
At one of the military camps, he meets an English nurse, Catherine Barkley. Catherine is still recovering from the death of her fiance, however her and Frederick slowly start to have a relationship, which develops into a passionate love and strong bond, as they face together many obstacles.
The book is incredibly amazing, however it is not an easy reading (on the emotional side).

The setting begins in the spring of 1984, following the main character Winston Smith amid a twisted, dystopian community. Throughout the book, the author exposes the main character's inner thoughts and turmoils against the totalitarianism regime of Oceania, and especially the "thought police." As Winston Smith interacts/introduced with other characters, Orwell faces the reader with suspenseful questions and thought-provoking intuitions. You will find yourself reading this book with upmost suspense with a captivating story line which leaves you wishing more by the end.

Satellite, written by Nick Lake, is the fictitious story of young astronaut named Leo who was born and raised on a space station. Accompanying him throughout through his early years are twins Libra and Orion, who were both born into a similar situation as Leo. Having just turned sixteen, Leo and the twins are scheduled to be sent back down to earth to live out normal lives like other people their age. Despite the massive adjustment, they all look forward to spending the rest of their lives on like normal people. However, compared to their life up in space, living on the surface presents some greater problems that make living on earth a living nightmare. The story itself is hard to follow at the beginning and rather boring, but by the midsection, things start to pick up speed and become more and more interesting with each page. I would mostly recommend this book to anyone who has a passion for either space or science.

Black Beauty is a beautiful black horse born in late eighteenth century England. Black Beauty starts off life in the peaceful country side along side his mother. when Beauty turns five he is sold to his first home, Birtwick park. He spends four happy years there among a handful of other horses. But these happy times come to an end when the lady of the house falls ill requiring the family to move. Beauty is then sold to a new home. He is sold over and over and over again to both kind and cruel people. I highly recommend this book for not only equestrians but for everyone else. It teaches the important lesson that empathy is not just for people but for animals as well.
