He was on a journey to sell his wool from his sheep and meet a girl that he had meet previously. He meet a king who was in disguised as a peasant and gave him two stones that would help him make tough decisions. The boy worked for a merchant and brought new life to the merchants shop. He then joined a caravan and spent many days traveling the dessert. The caravan had to stop at an oasis because of the war. There he meet Fatima who is the girl he loves and wants to marry. A stranger, who knows many languages showed up and turned out to be the alchemist. The alchemist taught him how to listen to the dessert and his heart. The alchemist and the boy went on a journey to Egypt and faced many challenges because of the holy war. They were captured by a tribe army and Santiago had three days to turn into the wind and destroy the camp before they kill them. On the third day he figured out how to turn into the wind and gained the respect of the elders.
