In Phase one, consider the challenge or the inspiration to be investigated or understood. This can often be thought of as a key provocation, or big idea, or framed as an essential question. Could be shared in a wide variety of forms (an image, a picture, a photograph, a quote, a song a statement) to invoke a sense of wonder or curiosity.

Imagining and generating phase = brainstorming the possibilities.

Planning and focusing = identifying the challenge or the inspiration= narrowing down the approach to be taken — Asking, “what are we trying to capture through engaging in this process, project, task?”

e.g. What materials might we use—circles back to the inspiration phase- How will we go about doing this (e.g. particular style, medium of art?) What techniques do we need to understand, learn, try?
