When Wes’s father died and his family had to move to Baltimore he starts to act out, probably because the absents of his father. He started smoking weed and hangingout with kids who were a bad influence on him. He started skipping school even though he knew how hard his mother worked to get him in that school. She then threatened to send him to military school. Which I think was important along with working so hard to get him in that school in the first place, because it shows she was not willing to give up on him and let him mess up his future. After his mother wing sent Wes to military school he attempted to escape but failed. He then talked to his mother and learned how much his family had to give up to to send him to military school. He then chose to take a step forward in the right direction and not let his family down.

When Wes Moore was sent to military school he ended up running away a couple times. The last time he ran away and came back he knew he had to change his life around somehow. During this part in the book i felt that Wes Moore was showing us that from now on his life was going to change in a positive way. He wasn't doing drugs anymore and got away from the bad influences in his life you could tell that he was going to accomplish much more in life and be a lot prouder of himself.

When the other Wes Moore started selling drugs so he could afford materialist things such as nice shoes and headphones. Things that his older brother Tony had aquired from drug dealing. Despite his brothers wishes to not follow in his foot steps or the aphorism he constantly preaches to Wes, “do as I say not as I do”, he chose to contine selling drugs. When his brother, Tony, found out he was furious he started to beat him up. After Tony and Wes’s mother pulled them apart she takes Wes’s side even thought she was already worried that he was heading down the wrong road because he failed and had to repeat 6th grade, but she didn’t want to believe it, so she believe the silly lie that he told her that he was getting the money from DJ-ing. When she found the drugs for herself she went off and demanded/forced him to stop. However, Tony’s disapproval along with the open cuts deep bruises and pool of blood gushing from Wes’s nose and face and his mother’s order weren’t enough to stop Wes from drug dealing.

He got into the drug business at a young age and started to hang out with the wrong people. However I don’t think that he incipiently chose to do it for himself, but for his family because they gave up so much to send him to military school to help push him in the right direction he didnt want to let them down.

I think it was important for him to stay so he didn't disappoint his mom and in your response i think you showed that very well. Also, i think you describing his background helped me understand what you were trying to say a lot better.

Wes’s had a really rough childhood considering his father was absent in his life, he grew up with a lot of people who were negative influences on him that encouraged his joining of the drug business. However, I think the most positive person in his life was his mother. She always wanted the best for him and tried to help him, she may not have tried hard enough because she had a lot on her plate. It also seemed like their wasn’t much she could say/do that was enough to push him out of the drug business and in the right direction. His older brother, Tony, always encouraged him to not do as he does because we wanted a better life for his little brother.

The other Wes Moore saw other people in his life doing these bad things so he thought it would be okay to do them also.

We choose to use this question because we felt that though out the novel there lives were so similar growing up. Their stories nearly blended so much that it was hard to keep track of which Wes Moore we were reading about. Somehow, their lives had such different endings. “ The chilling truth is that his story could’ve been mine. The tragedy is that my story could’ve been his.” We wanted to see if we could pin point the exact point that depicts or had the biggest impact on the path each Wes took. Also, this question has many different opinions and many different ways were could respond. As well as, no right or wrong answers.

The other Wes also tried to get his life together he went to the Job Corp, got a job, and left the drug business. He could have turned it all around then. It could easily be said that past, the bad the desitions he made before he tried to turn his life around, is why he’s we’re he is now... in jail. Yet there there was that point in time where he almost completely turned his life around making you question was it that one bad decision that by it’s self landed him behind bars for life.
