Peter Doig is a British painter who has lived and worked between England, Scotland, Trinidad, Canada, the USA and Germany.

Peter Doig's painting Moruga is about a local re-enactment of Christopher Columbus's arrival in Trinidad, a historical event that is also considered the discovery of the island.The painting is also an example of Doig's technique of using found imagery and personal memories to create fantastical yet resonant scenes that reflect on history and place.

I chose this painting to explore because the colour grading is kinda exciting. That's because usually people do not use orange and brown together. Also, this picture is very close to my ideas by having the flag that has cross in it due to it shows that which people have been portrayed and makes us understand that what happens in the painting.

Gillian Wearing: Artist Research Task

Gillian Wearing CBE, RA (born 10 December 1963) is an English conceptual artist, one of the Young British Artists, and winner of the 1997 Turner Prize. In 2007 Wearing was elected as lifetime member of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Her statue of the suffragist Millicent Fawcett stands in London's Parliament Square.

It provides a fascinating social and historical document, capturing the economic decline in Britain in the early 1990s as well as the expression of intimate thoughts or personal convictions.

I chose this picture to explore because the photo looks like very normal and basic, however, it carries a heavy meaning with the sign. It's philosophic and it pushes people to think about their lives as well. In addition to this, the photo is very affective on spreading ideas people because the board gets the right attention from people. However, in today's date, this photo can be seen as aged due to the changes to the world. The last, I suppose that artist, Gillian Wearing, shot this photo and added to its collection because at the time that this photo has been shot, it was meaning something to people and it was completing her project on exploring different signs.

It was the first time that I used an analog camera and it was the first time that I used a darkroom for printing photos. It was quite nice to use all of those different equipments for making my project all along. By completing this task, I knew that I have accomplished many things for the first time but also I knew that I wanted to make the best project, I had to improve myself on using lighting and learning different ways of shooting

Those equipments listed are that the eqipments that I will be using to complete this module. The camera and lenses are vital equipments because without them, I cannot complete the tasks that is given to me. Also, without light meter, the camera can exposed to light much and my photos can come as blank from the film, which is not good. The last, I will be using the cable release for task 3 completely.

Andy Warhol: The Big Snow

In this photo, we see that there will be a blizzard happening and this has been told to people by putting this article on first page. It is black and white, naturalistic photograph. The newspaper is on the focus of the image , however, Andy Warhol gave a lot of room to background, so the background can caught our attention. The object framed on the middle of the image, however, the newspaper has been put diagonally. Well, this photo is interesting because this was big news when this photo has been taken and it became art in time. Also, it is because the person who took this photo is Andy Warhol, big artist. I believe this photo is all about playing with the extreme news. Basically Andy Warhol made a joke on this blizzard completely because it has been shot 4 times and the newspaper who coverd this article is on the floor, which happens when people throw anything to the floor. It shows that people did not care about this cover at all. From this art, I learnt that with art, we can play with the meanings of things like events, important figures etc.

This photo can be described as a multi tv-unit. It has 14 different TVs in it. Also, the background contrasts itself. The genre of this photograph is still life because TVs are our machines that we are using in our daily life. This photo is been took with a camera and I can tell that because the image is on the book. The focus is in the image is obviously the TVs but because of the colours of the background, background carries a high importance in the image. If he were here, I would ask the artist that why this image has been taken and why is it named as Unit 2 because it is quite unusual for me that images like this made into a page in a photobook. This photo is about a huge TV unit and what can can carry it. From the photo, obviously the unit can carry 14 different TVs and 6 different decorations. I came up with that because the main thing in the photo is the unit and what it can carry. That's because there is nothing special with this photo, only the background colours. Unfortunately, there is nothing effective with this photo because it is a boring image.

In this photo, we see a kitchen from a family probably. It is quite messy and disorganised. The genre of the photo is still life because kitchen is a room that we are using in our daily lives. Also, in the image, there is nothing that is abstract. From the formal elements, the lines at kitchen cabinet made the photo more realistic that this photo could become. This is because if we look to our kitchen cabinets, we will be able to point out the similarities with the one in the image. This photo interested me because it was different from the others. It was standing out by itself and odd enough, it was hard to find the focus of this image. I believe that artist made this image because of completing a project because this photo on its own is not carrying that importance and meanings alone. The only things that are effective in this photo are maybe colour grading and maybe some realistic elements from our daily life. That is because this photo is quite basic and it only layouts plates on the stand in the kitchen.

From different perspective, this is not a photograph originally. In this image, we see many different vegetables on the studio grounds. The only word can describe this is that market because only those markets are having those variety of foods. In the photo, the in focus is that veggies, the out focus is shadows and what stands out the background wall. That's because we see less of them and in the image, they are kinda blurred back there. This picture is not different from the real life that much because the image features objects from our world. However, I believe the artist did not deal with the space of the studio very well because when he put the objects to the ground at the end, it is very clear that there are many spaces left in the studio. If I was in the photo, I'll be feeling like a veggie because everything on my around is a vegetable cabbage to lettuce, EVERYTHING. I think artist made this imagery because lowkey, he misses his childhood. That's because shoper theme is personal and uniquie in its own way. In this photo, vegetables are effective because they are the main focus of the photo and the character, young shoper, buys vegetables from the market.

In this photo, I see that people are having fun while they are eating and drinking. They look rich as well. This photo reminds me of like those clasic upper class fun activities in the films very much because I believe that those people have money in their pockets. The focus in this photo is that people's hand, drinks that they are drinking and what are they eating because the faces are completely out of the frame or they have been cut from the middle. This photo has been shot with camera because capturing moments like this is impossible with other types of devices. The mysterious thing about this photo is that how is it been took because this type of photos are can be come from sincere moments of our lives. In this picture, there is no flattening space because everything is 3d due to the main focus of this image is people. If I was in the photograph, I'm sure about that I was having the time of my life because I like those party atmospheres, so I know that I could adapt them very quickly. By exploring this type of art, I learnt that we can actually point out things even we have many different models in the picture.

I liked very much doing of it. It was fun, jumping and after all. So with low shutter speed, I blurred myself with the camera and with high shutter speed, I froze myself. I used 28mm for shooting these photos featured in this task. It made me learn that by using different lenses, I can create many different results shooting those photos alone. I also used the cable release for shooting myself with the camera with this task because I did the task by myself alone. Anyways, The photos are good and they will do the work just right for me.

It was a quite small task to do because we had to do research on a photo that is in the magazine and the artist that we chose for doing this task. With this research, I have gathered some ideas about my final project. Which is the Young Shoper style but different perspectives and different subjects. This book was containing many photos from different artists, including Andy Warhol. I learnt lots of different shot styles and setups with this book. In the photo, I see a piece of a tree but it differs from a tree. The genre of this photo is conceptual definetely because the photo contains an object from nature, which can be used as a conceptual art genre. That's why this photo is completely naturalistic. This photograph has been made with a camera because we can see the shadows of that piece of tree in the pic clearly. The subject is in focus, we can see that clearly when we look in the photograph because when we look at the object, we can see the deatils of it crystal clear. The subject has not been cropped anyway because there is no sign of that. From this photo, I can see that this artist likes making art projects that uses nature. By looking this, it influences me because my project is about using nature and bring it to the studio. I believe artist made this photograph because she wanted to show the simplicity of the nature to us. In this photograph, I see a rose in a blue background. It looks fine. The genre of this photo can be still life because even plants are living things, also, the rose is just stands there still, not moving an inch. The blue background is represents a connection between the earth and water i think because rose is a plant that uses dirt to grow up in and the blue colour usually represents the water in art. The mysterious thing about this photo is about why the rose has been placed to the top corner of the image. That's because usually, artists put the main object on the middle for making the main object can get attention from the people who sees the picture for the first time. However, in this photo, it is on top right corner. I wonder why. If I was inside of this photo, I would feel different because walking inside of a rose could make me feel very puzzled because I do not know the feeling of stepping inside of a plant. From this photo, I learnt that I can use a one object and shadowplay on it for making interesting and mysterious in a way.

In this photograph, I see a glass that made the shape of a bird with its shadow. The genre of this photo would be abstract because main object has been created a new things by using abstarct ways. This photo is done by the camera because this photo has been shot with a camera. The artist played with a light in this picture and captured the bird in the glass with that play. In this photo, you can see that there is a 3D feature with the glass, due to its positioning. Through research, I can see that this artist dealt with nature in her photo subjects. She'd like to explore different kinds of shooting techniques and mashing up with nature. Being inside of this photo would be very sad and lonely because the glass is empty inside. This photo does not remind nothing of other photographs that I know. The effective side of this photo would be the shadow art in the glass, the non effective side would be the photo is looking too simple. The words that I use to describe this photo would be colourful, green, nature and baby flower because this photo has a cactus as their main object. Genre of this photo is landscape I think because the photo looks like it has been taken from a national park or something. This is a naturalistic image because cactus is a natural plant. This picture is not different from real life because in real life, cactuses are looking like the one at the photo, when they are in their habitat. The colour grading of the photo is exciting because normaly, this would be a very hard thing to do. This photograph is about the theme of nature. I decided that because the photo mainly contains cactuses and different objects from nature. Others would say that, this photo is looking good because the artist worked good on this photo.

In this photo, I see a scissor that is going to cut the apple that has a smiley face. For shooting this photo, artist have been used lemon's and apple's and a piece of stick. This picture is not really different from real life. In this photo, there is nothing that is surprising me because it looks kinda simple and it gives me the idea of that I can do this too with myself. Living in this photo would be very hard because the main object of this photo is just a tree stick that carries fruits and walking on the stick is very hard. From this photo though, I learnt that if I can give emotion to a subsidary objects of my photo, I am injecting different meanings to my photo.

In this photo, I recognise the Mount Fuji and the plants, which they are tulips. There is nothing seems new to me in this photo. This is a naturalistic image because it looks like that this photo has been taken in Mount Fuji's outer fields. There is no play of light in this photo. The focus on tulips are very interesting to me because the artist easily could focus the mountain and make the sky and the environment of the mountain very clear. This photo did not remind any different photos, which makes that I've seen this photo for the first time. From this photo, I saw that depth of field matters a lot when it comes to changing the photos direction.

The genre of this photo are landscape, due to the mounts and conceptual because of the birds and the tulips. This photo is a mix between abstract and naturalistic image. That's because of in the photo, there are pictures of mountains and birds, however they have been placed abstractly in the photo. In this photo, I see a good look of a natural environment. There are trees, a lake and different plants that are covering hudge spaces of the photo. This is a naturalistic image due to it contains objects that is in nature like plants, lake and trees. There is nothing strikes me as interesting because when I did 2 different artist research on this genre, there is nothing interesting left on the photo. Living inside of this photo would be same as living in the rain forests because the environment has the same looking like in the photo. Other people would say that this image is looking gorgeus because the colour grading in the photo is perfect and the visuals of the is astonishing.

This photo contains a lot of green in it. The photo focuses on the trees because they are the main object of the photo. For this photo, the colours are very important in the photo because they are representing the main idea of the picture. Which is how nature preserved today. Flattening of space has no effect in this photo because the branches of the tree and the leaves of the tree are still clear and I believe that you can feel their realism as well. If I pretend that I'm inside this photo, it feels like that I am in dirt and hiding because the trees are together so much in the image. I believe other people would say that this photo is generic because there is nothing special in the photo actually.

In this photo, I recognise the trees, their leaves and those plants habitats. Nothing in this photo is new to me. This photo is naturalistic because it contains a lot of objects that relates to the nature in our world. The puzzling side of the photo would be the ground side because it looks different from the other photos of the artist. With this photo, artist tried to mash up the made up ground with real plants, suggesting that we are living in a made up nature. That's because in the photo, only the ground is not realistic. From this photo, I learnt that by messing the ground of the photo, we can make different conclusion by looking to the image itself.

This is looking like collage of photos. The artist used different objects to make the project interesting as well. The photo is between naturalistic and abstract because the photos contain the parts of snake and some plants, however the objects around photos says otherwise and add some abstarction to the project. If the artsit would be here, I would ask that why the project is been made like this because it is different from other artists work. This photo is about the differences in nature because in the photo, we see different features of the nature in different places on the wall. Effective side of the photo is having different features of the nature, not only one thing. The thing does work so well would be that this photo is boring.

In this photo, there are different images of rock on the wall. The only thing in this picture different from the life would be that rocks are connected with something like ivy. This is different from the life because normaly rocks are not connected with each other when you break them. The title that I would give this picture would be 'The Rocks on the Wall' because in the image, the rocks are really on the wall. Other people would say that the image is boring because the only innovating thing about the photo is that the when you look at the photo, the rocks are looking like drawings.

I would describe this photo is green, different, objects and mediums becasue in this photo, artist used a lot of different objects and mediums to make this photo. The artist captured the play of light in the image by using green lighting in the picture. It made that this picture is connected to nature somehow. The surprising thing about this image would be that the green lighting because it is nothing like that I have seen right now, as I am completing my research on artists for my project. I think that living inside this photo would be boring because your sky is green always and the objects that are on the wall adds nothing to it. This task was hard on its own because it took a huge time to finish. However, in the end, I have completed the task. By learning this skill, I have applied to my project later on for geting close up shots. I mean, I was relieved when I finished this task.

Those are the test strips of my project. It shows that how the images of my project have been printed at early stage. I used those papers for determing that which is the best exposure for my photos to be shown. In my belief, my photos have the right type of exposure. That's because I have used those strips. After I made those strips, I have printed my photos in their original scale for to be shown to the people.

Those are the films that I have used in this project. It is looking like the contact sheets but the difference is that those documents are much detailed. I'm guessing that showing the films that have I used is helping the project as a whole by adding variety in detailing it.

This is the reflection of my project. It has been inspired by the artist that I have researched, which they are Eugenia Ivannisevic, Sheida Solemani, Naome Goudal and Lucia Pizzani's works. That's because in a sense, we all made photographic work in the same genre. I made the sequencing like this because I tried maintain the connection between the images of my project, so they can make sense to the people who has seen it. My project is mainly about nature and how the objects are looking like in it. I tried to use the objects that are connected to nature becuase I did not want the only thing that represents nature are plants and leaves that is in all of my images. The main drawback of this type of project is the lack of colours because when other artists try to make naturalistic photos, they gain the help of colour grading for making the image is more connected to the nature. However in my case, I am missing that with black and white pictures. However, even my images have this drawback, I believe that they are looking marvellous with having the same tone grading in each other. In the end, I am relieved that finally I have finished my project as a whole and I am happy that I have these results.

Those images above is my contact sheets for this project. I have used them for determing that which photo should be in my exhibition. From those papers, I have chosen the pictures that are looking good and that are have connection between them. That's why those papers helped me gratly when I was making this project.

Boris Mikhailov is a Ukrainian photographer. He had a four-decade career as a Soviet factory photographer.His work combines conceptual art and social documentary photography. He has been awarded the Hasselblad Award and the Citibank Private Bank Photography Prize and was also Shevchenko National Prize laureate of 2021. Mikhailov had his first exhibition at the end of the 1960s. From 1968 to 1975 he shot several series documenting everyday scenes, the best known of them being the Red series. In Case History, he examines the consequences of the breakdown of the Soviet Union for its people. In 2004 Mykhailov first exhibited in Berlin in an exhibition concerning people living at the edge of society. He subsequently moved from Ukraine to Germany, where he resided as of 2022.

I am putting this section in here because it shows deep details of my project. Also, its states that I have used different lenses throughout when I was making my project, which is important for me becuase when people looks at my project, I want to be sure that they know every detail of my project, due to maybe that I can inspire some people to do something like this in the future.

In this exhibition, I liked the work of the artist because it was seemed that they were connected to my project. So, I picked some photos from artist's exhibition for influencing my work. By looking artist's work, I can reflect upon Subjectibity, Objectivity and Power because on the photos, we can see there is a subject connected to it. In this case, the subject of those photos are Soviet Russia. In continuation, the objects are in the photo is connected to their subjects. By this, we can see some objectivity in the exhibition's images. The last, power comes at last by the connection between subjects and objects in the pictures. By looking the artist's work, I have learnt that I can make documentaries with photos as well. In continuation I have learnt that I can use composition for shooting documentary photos. From looking at photographer's work, I have learnt that I could change the photo's colour to different than black and white. But I do not think that I would use it because it is hard and it will take quite a lot time and I do not have that time for finishing my project.
