What did I learn in this course?
It is difficult to put it into a few words.
I am totally impressed by so much that I have encountered here in the classroom in nature.
It is always exciting to arrive somewhere new, to leave the familiar paths, to get involved in something new, to overcome fears. But you almost always come out of it stronger.
In Guadeloupe, I learned that the clocks tick differently, that you have to be flexible and patient, that friendliness is great and also that nature is huge and magnificent.
It's also important to adjust your expectations to the realities.
As a French teacher, I gained a completely new perspective on this part of France and also learned a lot about how ambivalent the relationship is.
But as I said, I can't put the whole experience into a few words, a presentation or a quiz. All I know is that the stay made me richer.
This experience, I am sure, will stay with me for a long time.
And I am sure that I will pass on some of this experience to my students in French lessons.
Rita, ou trè janti.
An pace on bon ti moman !
Au vwa Guadeloupe !

I learnt in this course to be (in our fast moving time) quite and hopeful. First I felt this in plane: the behaviour of people from Guadeloupe were quite and considerate.
In addition I have learnt so much about the history of this island and the problems of present. So I’m really happy to was here and my own horizon is wider now!

I wish I could take the calmness und friendliness of the Guadeloupean with me to the hectic Germany.
I have learned to be patient, to help yourself when there is no help and to be thankful when there is help .
I have reminded some basics of being a teacher- animator, motivator, story teller , partner.
I got to know interesting people, great places and delicious food.
A new experience here in the Carribean I had never been before - unforgettable.

I looked forward to my first transatlantic trip with great respect and anticipation. Gudeloupe has motivated me to write the Erasmus applications for years and now the time had come. I imagined many things differently, the weather rainy only today, the food different, the music and people similar. The nature is beautiful and more diverse than I thought. The strong presence of the slavery history was clear to me, but the details shocked me again. It made me very humble. I very much enjoyed the many insider things that I would not have experienced as a normal tourist, and that makes me very happy. I take very many insights home with me in a lasting way and will perhaps come here again in my sabbatical...who knows if as a sailor?

Traveling is the best teacher and doing the first step to get it started somehow the most difficult one.

I just finished a book I took on my journey which I wished to have read a long time ago. It’s from the south American author Sergio Bambarem and called “Die Botschaft des Meeres. Was dir die Wellen erzählen “ English title: “Thoughts by the ocean”. Today I carefully listens to the ocean and it taught me to breathe, to slow down and to find inner peace. I watched a father taking his about five year old little daughter on his surfboard and showed her the way through the waves. What a great lesson he gave to his kid.

The last nine days were full of unbelievable and unforgettable impressions, nice and deep conversations and meeting people who live what they say. I am very grateful for the unique opportunity to be here and part of this group and will share my experience as a multiplier among friends and fellow teachers.

A few days before coming to this adventure I read that travelling is the food for the soul as it provides new ideas and perspectives on different aspects. However, I believe that it also provides more knowledge about the place and also about yourself. Every time I travel, I would say that I come back as a new person, as I suppose that getting out of your comfort zone and discovering new cultural experiences (places, people, history, food, music, etc) allow you to understand local perspectives, which makes you think twice about judgments and opinions that we could have done before.
Last week went very fast due to all the activities we had the chance to do, meeting new people that come from different origins but strive for the same goals as teachers.
Many reasons took me to Guadeloupe: the language, the adventure of being in a tropical country, learning about local heritage…I think that this new experience gave me the ability to form decisions and opinions based on what I saw. Not only did I play drums, make some handcrafts or cook a different pancake but also I learned about music and how it allows people to stick together, how patience and joy can make your job a bit better or how traditions should be still considered as a very important part of our culture.

In this trip I learned that I have a lot left to learn: about other countries, languages, my own culture and teaching. I feel like that is the goal of traveling. I have discovered some personal and professional goals which I will pursue when I return home and these experiences and images will remain with me along this new leg of my next journey.

Most importantly, I feel like got to witness so many caring people. Watching the news and listening to the radio can make you jaded but the people here probed that a difficult past doesn’t have to make you hard. My heart has learned that there is still kindness in the world-it isn’t all as hard as I thought it was before I came. I feel like I am leaving this country rich with knowledge and experience.

Simon Sinek says: as professionals we know very well WHAT we do. We also know HOW to do what we do. However, it is rare that we know WHY we do it. Finding your personal WHY makes all the difference in the way we work and live.
My personal WHY is to take teachers away from their daily lives and help them to experience the beauty of the world with its people, nature and different way of living. I hope that they become happier and more open hearted persons who care more about others around them.
This session proved that the best way of learning is through real experiences and not through distance learning. It seems we all enriched ourselves being together.
