Reflections on your Speech Presentation - Oral Communication by Mdm Aishah @Rosyth

Write a reflection on your oral presentation or your group's oral presentation. You may view your group's presentation video in Google Classroom and use the following questions as a guide in writing your reflections.

1) Was my pronunciation and articulation clear and consistent? How about my group members'?

2) Did I use appropriate rhythm and stress to achieve a well-paced, fluent reading of our speech without hesitation? How about my group members?

3) Did I use appropriate variation of pitch and tone in order to convey the information and feelings in the speech? How about my group members?

4) What could I and my group members have done differently to improve our oral presentation and Google Slide presentation?

1. My pronunciation was overall clear for most of the words, although I stumbled on words I was not familiar with. My articulation was clear too.
I think I should have further familiarize myself with the script, and use a more appropriate when speaking.

My group members:
Cecilia: She could have spoken louder and slightly slower, as I think she spoke too fast, and people might not hear what she had said. She should also be more expressive.

Faith: She spoke too fast in the middle, and could have missed or mispronounced several words. She was very expressive.

Di'En: Di'En was very fluent in the speech, however she could have been slower to avoid mispronunciation or missing of words. She should have kept a steady and appropriate pace.

2. I think I had an overall appropriate pace and rhythm. However, I think I can work on stressing on a well-paced, fluent reading of speech without any hesitations.

My group members especially Faith had a really good fluent reading of speech.

3. My group members used a appropriate pitch and tone to express our feelings and words of the endangered animal (orangutan) although I think we could have been a little more expressive to liven up our speech.

4. I think that we could have added words instead of just pictures to at least allow the "audience" to see the main points of what we were speaking about at that point in time.
When putting words on pictures, we will have to make sure to put contrasting colors so that the main points can be seen properly.
Also we should avoid being lengthy, if not no one would bother to read what you wrote on the slides.

Overall, my group took this seriously and did not laugh or giggle.

1) My pronunciation was not so clear for some words but for others it was okay. My articulation is quite clear and consistent but it still can be improved. My group members' pronunciation and articulation are quite good but still can be improved.
2)Some of my group members and I used appropriate rhythm and stress to achieve a well-paced, fluent reading of our speech with some hesitation while the rest were fluent and did not hesitate

3) Some of my group members and I used appropriate

variation of pitch and tone in order to convey the information and feelings in the speech whenever something while the others were quite monotonous.
4) My group members and I could have improved on our Google Slides in terms on the colour contrast and some other things. The words could not be seen clearly because the background colour and the colour of the words are similar, so the words are not clear. Also, there are too many words on the slides so when my classmates look at the slides, they don't even bother to read as there are too many words. Therefore, I think that we should have only written the main points on the slides.

My group members pronunciation and articulation was okay but still can be better as we did mumble a few sentences.
2) I think that I used appropriate rhythm and stress but I did hesitate at some parts. Some of my group members need to work on knowing when to stress the words and when not to as they did stress at the wrong parts .
3) Some of my group members and I need to work on our variation of pitch and tone. Maybe, next time I could practice more times reading the script. My teammates did really well and I commend them for their effort.
2)I guess I did OK for my rhythm and stress, all except for the last part where I stumbled. Other than that, our team were really fluent and well paced. Kudos to our group!
3) My group did well in this sector, including me. Perhaps we did alright for this as we went through this before the presentation.
4) Our slides were quite simple , which was good, but I felt the transition from one slide to another could be improved. Also, I should have familiarized myself
for the speech to prevent me from stumbling.

1. My pronunciation and articulation was clear but I think I could have slowed down my pace. My group members could have pronounced the words more clearly especially Guang Zhe as there were some paragraghs that were not very clearly to some extent that he was mumbling in a way that no one could make out what he was saying without looking at the script.

2. I think I used an appropriate rhythm and stress especially on the phrase ' aggressive hunting' to show how serious the extinction of the Blue Whale were due to aggressive human hunting. To me, Ashley was a little bit flat in voice. Guang Zhe and Randall were also not very fluent as they were not very confident.

3. Yes, I think I did. On the part where I talked about climate change affecting the food that Blue Whales feed on (krill), I felt that I stressed on the words to show the feeling of sadness that the Blue Whale has. Ashley and Randall were also aggressive at the parts where there strong feelings that could be expressed. I feel that Guang Zhe did not really show the feeling and did not really want to do the speech.

4.I think we could have looked up more times to face the audience as we were basically just looking down at our scripts, showing no eye contact and face expression.

Aidan did pretty well for someone who does not usually talk much. Cohen is always okay, and Yakim was good.

3) As our group used speech, we were expressive and spoke in the Panda's perspective. I was proud of my group. Although, initially, my "Oh no!" was a little bit awkward, as it was not really expressive.

4) We could have prepared earlier when the slides needed to be changed as we missed out the last slide and practice more on our reading so as to not hesitate. We also could have more eye contact with our audiences as we were looking down to our scripts most of the time.

I also think that if my group memorized the speech, the presentation would have been better.

Group 4
1) I think that my pronunciation was not very clear and can be further improved during oral practice. I think that my group members should not laugh during our presentation and we should not cover our faces when we are presenting. I think that me and Jervis should express more emotion when we were speaking.
2)No. I think that my voice was monotonous and I did not use the appropriate stress and rhythm as me and Jervis were reading our speech at different paces and were not coherent at most times and were not using enough emotion. We did not look at the audience much so I think that eye contact should be very much practiced among our group
3) I think that me and Jervis had used a monotonous pitch of tone that was not entirely varied to the feelings of the character. Some of my group members started cracking up in the middle of our presentation and resulted in everyone speaking faster so as to stop the laughing.
4) I think that I should have practiced more on the script so that we will be less nervous and we could have presented a better presentation. My group members could have used more expression so that we can convey the message better for our audience.

I think that my group members did very well in explaining the slides and the reading of the script as they expressed the words very well but they read a bit too fast, but overall it is good. (For the pronunciation and articulation)
2.Yes. My group members used appropriate rhythm and stress to achieve a well-paced, fluent reading of our speech (most of the time) without lots of hesitation but I think we have to improve on our hesitation part as we have a few times that we stumbled on a few words as we were trying to express our words clearly so our audience can hear us.
3.Yes. I personally think that my group did quite well in using appropriate variation of pitch and tone in order to convey our information and feelings in the speech.
4. I think that one thing that my group members and I should have done differently is to improve our oral presentation and slide presentation. We should have gone through the slides together first so when my group members present, there will be no issue in like when the slides in the presentation do not match the things that we are saying.

1. My pronunciation was mostly clear, however there is still room for improvement. My group members pronunciation and articulation was also quite clear and consistent.
2. My group members and I used appropriate rhythm, however we did not stress much on important words. Thus, our speech was not that fluent and there was a bit of hesitation.
3. I felt that my group members and I sounded very nervous and there wasn't a variation of pitch and tone to convey the information and feelings of our character.
4. I think my group members and I can have more expression while talking and ensure that we are able to talk more fluently.

1. My pronunciation was good but it could have been better. I think my group members did a good job.
2. I think my group and I stumbled a little at the end but the front was good without much hesitation.
3. I think I was a bit monotonous and I could have used a wider variation of tones.
4. We could have HAD a slide presentation but we didn't. I think with a slide presentation our presentation could have been better.

1. My pronunciation was clear but I mumbled a bit at some parts . My other members pronunciation was clear but I think Guang Zhe spoke too softly.
2. At first we spoke too quickly but nearer to the middle we slowed down and used the appropriate rhythm and stress to achieve a well-paced , fluent reading without much hesitation.
3. Guang Zhe could have shown more expression on some of the parts but I think my other groups members were expressive enough.
4. I think we could have used google slides to make our point more convincing.
