Paying attention in class gives you lots of vocab to use and copying down words from the assignments is also a good place to get vocab. Talking to people that are native spanish speakers can also help you get vocab and understand the language overall. And one thing you absolutely have to do is practice. When you have memorized the starter sentences/responses you can now add more detail and maybe ask your classmates questions and practice with them in class or out of class.
