1)We want to embody patience, acceptance and respect. We aim to try and be receptive and listen to all views. We hope to create a space where everyone feels welcome and safe to be true to themselves.

2)Try to arrange more bewells for the group to meet as a whole as well as external section boding. Furthermore give room for mentees to talk privately and just connect.

3)We will try to figure out wether or not the issue needs to be handles in private or as a group. If it must be handled in private then we will deal with the issue one on one. Otherwise we will meet as a section and discuss the issue. From there we will explain why the person feels the way they feel and how the section can help them feel better.

4)We will continue our role throughout the year not just stopping after the first term. We hope to maintain an open door policy, to allow mentees to feel comfortable to talk with us. We will try to connect on an personal level with all our mentees and arrange regular chats with them.

You can’t have trust without honesty and being trusting will be very important in establishing a relationship with your mentees.

Showing up as a consistent mentor, doing regular check-ins and BeWells, making an effort to show our mentees around Stellenbosch and even if it means breaking mentees up into smaller groups to foster a deeper relationship with them.

Respect - while love can be a bit much to ask of people who you just met/barely know, respect should be of utmost importance to foster. Equality - emphasising to the mentees that everyone, regardless of their background and character, is equal and deserves an equal amount of respect.

After the welcoming period, a more fixed BeWell schedule could help give mentees more structure and make them more available to attend more sessions.

Getting to know them better is of utmost importance to understand their personalities and unique needs. Knowing these will be instrumental to adapting our approaches to make them feel the most comfortable.

Will - to create better personal relationships with each mentee, ensuring that a secure relationship is established with each one on the same level. Ano - to be more involved in the lives of the mentees so that we may be able to connect and maybe develop bonds in which mentees see us as friends rather than just glorified tour guides.

1.) Which values do we want to embody to my mentees?

Love: Different forms of love. Communicate and display those different forms. Love can be a compromise … it is not always about you. Coming from a non-judgemental background. Respect and equality goes into this. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a.

Respect: umbrella term. Foundation for many values. Acknowledgement of one another’s humanity. Greeting each other. Knowing that just because someone’s view is different from yours doesn’t make it wrong.

Integrity: doing the right thing even when no-one is watching. Do the right thing or don’t do it at all. Stick to your words, hold YOURSELF accountable.

2.)Ensure that during o-week, the gees is kept at an all time high. This can be done by making war cries which are unique to Metanoia. By ensuring the gees is high as soon as they step foot into Metanoia, it will ensure that maintaining the spirit will be easier. Furthermore, it is important that be well sessions are constant throughout the year to cultivate a culture of community within the section.

3.)If we notice that a mentee is feeling down during a be well section, don’t single them out. Rather built a foundation of trust and safety with the mentee via one-on-one sessions.

4.) Building a community within the sessions is so important to the development of the mentee. Some will struggle to build friendships during o-week so by familiarizing with their section mates, it will at least give them reassurance that they are not alone and that they do have people to turn to.
