My name is Gabrielle Dixon and the title of my padlet is "Black Neurodiversity in the Prison System." I’m focusing on what Black Neurodiversity looks like within the prison system, but also carrying into ones’ lives as they transition back into society. Mass incarceration is an important issue in the United States, especially when looking at the statistics from a racial standpoint. Black people make up about 13% of the US population, but are 22 times more likely to be arrested than their white counterparts.Though the percentage of Black people in America is small, the Black Neurodivergent community is even smaller. I am very interested in topics surrounding mass incarceration as well as black disabilities, so creating a project that incorporates both of these important topics seemed fitting. From this padlet, I want to introduce you to a topic that you may be unfamiliar with, but also help you to learn more. Here, I have presented research on the stories of 4 men who have one or more disabilities, and how their disabilities have impacted their lives inside, and outside of US jails and prisons.
