I will look at the problems asking my students to bring together two linear equations, or a "system," through the lens of how relevant or engaging the problem is for my students. Asking students to compare cell phone plans or make an argument for the paid version of Spotify vs. Apple Music is something they will be more likely to care about which will make it more engaging. And incorporating a resource like "The Five Whys" to help them justify their reasoning will make it even more engaging.

I will help students make connections to their prior learning by guiding them at the end of the lesson. For example, when focusing on our families and communities unit, I will continue to refer back to previous class discussion, readings, videos etc. In addition, I will have them compare what we learn about other cultures to their own family and community. Students need to know the vocabulary associated with this theme in order to effectively communicate in Spanish.

This is really basic right now. But speed date with a music book/piece. I could have different genres set out. Students would pick a music book from a genre, and select a song within that book. They could listen to it, look at the origin of the words and then do a little debrief on the meaning, story, composer/lyricist, or how it relates to them. The next time we did it they would have to choose a different genre.
