He united the reign and supported the merchants. He also taxed the nobles and stopping them from having their private armies to avoid civil wars.

He was an othodox and he changed religion for many reasons: his wife Catherine of Aragon had a female, Mary, so he didn’t have male heirs for the Tudor dinasty. So he asked to marry Anne Boleyn but pope Clement VII denied his request.
He married her anyway and he had a daughter, Elizabeth. 
Furthermore, the king’s court cost a lot, but people had also to pay Church’ s taxes, so the Crown’s income was reduced.
As a consequence we have the ACT OF SUPREMACY in 1534: the king with the parliament’s support proclaimed himself Supreme Head of the Church of England; he closed monastieres and their properties passed to the kingdom.
Only his third wife, of his six wives,Jane Seymour, gave him a male heir, Edward.

Elizabeth I died childless and the crown went James VI of Scotland, now James I of England. He created a fracture between the monarchy and Parliament.
He was protestant and chose Robert Cecil as a Chief Minister and he convinced the king to be strict in religious dissent. This was called Gunpowder Plot and the conspirators were  put to death. There was the first monarch to reign on England,Scotland and Ireland.

For this he wanted to introduce more Protestant Reforms. The Church of England was hostile towards them.
