My MP#1 PBL decision is the family tree project because it is a great opportunity to learn about family members. It also seems a lot more creative and fun. The Family Tree project seems like it going to be challenging but a good type of challenge because it will push me to learn more about my family’s history, So I would rather do this one. The essay doesn't seem like I will learn as much as I would if I do The Family Tree. In the essay you are researching and writing about your family. This is why I believe the family tree would be the best fit for me. My plans for this project are to go on to as many Family Tree websites I can find, and search all the last names in my family including mine and find more information about them. I want to find relationships I never knew existed and trace it back to me and do the math to figure out how we may be related.

I chose the Family Tree project because it would let me learn a lot more about my family, as well as see where they were from and there lifestyle. I enjoy seeing my past family because it lets me learn about my culture, religion, and how long they lived for. Also, I just love learning about past life. I come from a family of many different cultures and lifestyles as told by my parents, but I really want to get farther into those cultures and past lives. Instead of using those websites like ancestry and other websites that help you learn about it, I am gonna go to my family members like my grandparents, cousins, and others in my family. This will be a fun project

I would like to choose the family tree project. In my opinion I think that the family tree project is more fun than writing an essay. I also feel that i am better at making something than writing something. Writing is not one of my strengths, but making things is. I think that it will be really fun to make questions and conduct interviews with my family members. I also think that it will be really fun to learn about my family’s ready history by interviewing them. My neighbor did this project last year and he told me all about it. He said that it was a lot of fun and that it turned out really well. This project will help me find out what my ancestor’s reading has effected on me and I think that is really cool to learn. I also like with the family tree project is that we have different choices in the project. You can choose how to ask your questions like over to phone or in person. You can choose how to research your ancestor’s history. And my favorite, you can choose how you want to present your project. Ex: You can either choose to make a google slides presentation, a prezi, or you can actually make a mini tree.

After reviewing my previous PBL response I still agree with what I had chosen to do for a project. The reason being is because I am very curious to go deeper into my family's history then what I know now. Learning about the history of reading just really doesn't’ jump out of me. It almost seems like more of a history project than language arts. I’m very anxious to check how far my families history goes back. Questions are coming to my mind already hardly having to think about it. Things like, How far back did my family go? Who was the first person in my family? Was anybody in my family famous or very well known? I wonder where my family originated from? Or even going deeper into my heritage. As far as I know right now, I’m Cuban and Norwegian. All these questions makes me want to go investigate my families heritage right now. I plan to make a poster or prezi for this project. My resources for this project are going to be family history websites and my parents and grandparents. I suppose my grandparents would be the best and most reliable resource because they’ve lived the longest of my family members.

I decided to stick with the first option. My reasoning for this is that research is boring and finding out what my family members are interested in reading is cool. The project also says that you will find out about deceased relatives finding out more about them is cool. Another reason I am sticking with the first option is that online research on uninteresting topics gets boring. To me at least the origins of school is uninteresting. It’s like if you hated sports and had to do a research paper on sports. It will also be a good bonding experience to talk to some of the relatives I don't see a lot. I don't always to do well on essays so having a choice is great. It will also just in general be way more fun than just a research paper. That is why I decided to stick with the first one. My plans for this project is to do the first few steps of the project because i haven't started thinking about this yet

I would like to write an essay as to why reading history is important. I am not an artsy or creative person so it might be hard for me to complete it to my best ability. Also, I am better at essay’s and researching. I like explaining more than drawing and I feel I will succeed better at writing. Another reason I want to write an essay is because I feel I can manage my time better. With doing sports, and other activities it would be easier for me because I wouldn’t have to focus on a poster I just have to worry about typing and printing. I can do it paragraph by paragraph and this will help my writing process visually, and mentally. Overall, I feel I can get a higher grade by writing an essay. This is why I feel the essay is the best fit for me.

My family loves reading, so it would be interesting to see what my family likes to read to see where I get my book interests from. I want to ask my family questions like what their favorite genre is, what their favorite books are, and what books and genres they don’t like as much. I plan to travel to my close family members or call the ones that are farther away. For the actual tree, I might make it online to make it more organized. I know that many of my deceased ancestors liked to read, so I can ask people who knew them and see what they liked.

Also I would have to be a detective and try to figure out the specific memories on why they started to read and what kind of books are there favorite. I also think that I can learn a lot more about my family which will probably make me closer to them and to also see if that has any connections to me and to see why I am the reader I am today.

Primarily because I'm more of hands-on worker and feel more comfortable displaying my research through the family tree. Being able to express my creativity through this type of project puts me at ease. Additionally, I feel that if it's in a physical form it's going to be easier to grasp the line of my family tree, and facts about my family as well. For me personally, I feel it's more intriguing then just doing a research essay. Rather than the family tree project which presents everything through an array of interviews, artifacts, and pictures.

After reviewing my choices, I have decided to choose the Family Tree Project. The main reason for this is because it gives me the opportunity to be more creative. I will have the chance to decorate and make a family tree all whilst interviewing my family members. Considering I am always at soccer and my family is always out of the house, I will set apart time and it gives me the chance to interview my family who I hardly see. This is important to me because I love my family and this project is a chance to talk. I do not think that the essay is for me. It does not allow me to be nearly as creative and the essay seems tedious and does not sounds like something I want to do. I am looking forward to doing the family tree project for the reasons listed above.

In addition to this, I already have an idea of who I'm going to interview for this project. For the tree itself, I'm planning on having one huge tree. I'm also going to have a bunch of branches with leaves on them. On the branch, I'm going to write the family member's name, and on the leaf I will write what the project requires. The materials I'll most likely need are green paper, scissors, glue, Sharpie markers, and possibly some other items. Finally, I know that my mom really likes to read, so she will be a big asset to my project, as well as my sister.

After reviewing my choices for the PBL this marking period I have decided to do The Family Tree project. I would much rather show you something more creative and do something more creative for myself because I am going to be writing essays for everything until I am out of school. Also, I think that my focus would be so much better doing something I like rather than something that I don like. I know that I am definitely interviewing my mother and my two grandmothers that were both teachers before they retired. I am looking forward to doing this project and discovering more about my family.

For my PBL, I'm still going to choose option #1, the Family Tree project. I'm still going to choose this option because this project fits me better than the second project. Interviewing people is a little more easier for me than writing an essay. Getting to know more about my family and their past will help me get a better understanding on how I can become a better student and a better person. Although I may need to do more work for the Family Tree project than the second option, I am willing to do more work in order to get a better grade on my PBL.
