Since the colonizers crossed over the ocean to what is the US now, the treatment of minorities have been atrocious. They were oppressed by being kept uneducated, many slaves were beat and even killed if they knew how to read. As time went on minorities continued to be oppressed and continued to face systematic racism. The civil rights movement of the 1950's and 60's helped people of color, women, and people with disabilities to have a better chance at equal rights that white males received and continue receiving.
