It was magic as she watched the orchestra play.
Although she was only seven, something clicked
in her. She wanted to be a musician. Yes, when
she was older, but also now. She watched drowsily,
until her eyes could no longer stay open and she
drifted off to sleep, gently lulled by the orchestra's
calm music.

Sure, she was in second grade, but she didn't
see why it was fair to have to wait two more
years to be in orchestra class. And being Leah
Brinnly, she decided to ask her music teacher why
she couldn't join orchestra now. So after music
class, she asked if she could speak to Mrs. Humend,
the music teacher.

"Wait, lemme get this right, miss. You, at age
seven want to join orchestra class?" Mrs. Humend
asked, chuckling. "Yes, Mrs. Humend. I want to
join orchestra. It just isn't fair I have to wait
to play music." Leah replied. "You see, Leah, your
brain simply isn't large enough to carry the
stress, music notes, and everything else orchestra
brings." Mrs. Humend continued. "Actually, Mrs. Humend,
it doesn't really matter how big your brain is. Or
my brain, for that matter. It just matters how
many wrinkle you have on your brain, which indicates
smartness. So why can't I just try?" Leah argued.
"Dear, I know you really want to try. But what do
you want to play, cello? It could knock you over
before you even plucked a string." she said.
"I don't want to play cello, I want to play violin.
And I know for a fact, that you have violins my size.
Don't you?" Leah replied.

After eleven minutes of negotiation, it was decided
that Leah Brinnly, would get to try out for orchestra.
But if she messed up, she was going to be kicked out.
Leah thought that at least half of those rules were stupid,
but she supposed this was the only chance she would get.
Since orchestra hadn't started yet, she wanted to make a
good first impression. Therefore, she studied for long
hours, using a borrowed violin from one of her mom's friends.

She felt like singing, so she did. She, Leah Brinnly
the second grader from Miss Fringely's room, would
play violin in orchestra. She had known this for a
few days, but her excitement wasn't even the least
dulled. She danced in the sun, basking in its glorious
light. Violin. Yes, violin! She would get to attend
orchestra, and learn how to read difficult music notes,
more importantly, make music, and most importantly do
what she loved the most.
