I try as much as possible to use the “Plan B” that is collaborative problem solving with the learners.

But I should let them come up with solutions first rather than list solutions. That way they are practicing problem solving AND collaboration. Rather than me listing solutions and them picking the one that suits them best.

Greeting our learners as they arrive into the building, into our rooms, and being a positive influence in the halls during transitions. Dismissing learners from the door with positive words for their next experience- next class, recess, lunch etc.

That learners acting out usually means that they are missing a skill. (The 7 skills; confidence, empathy, self-control, optimism, perseverance, curiosity, integrity)

And the fact that we can identify which skills they are lacking with the means of teaching them those skills.

For me the connectedness and having a "person" at school has always been a goal. In the many years I have worked at CRCS I have been proud of the connections I made with learners. When I worked at Dimensions I had a group of learners who were not in my learning community or academic classes that always knew they could come to me for help, a break, or connection.

Bullying and gateway behaviors. The session at 3:00pm on Saturday really challenged my thinking and brought up several perspectives I hadn’t considered before with bullying and investigating. It really affirmed the importance of relationships, connectedness, and feeling of safety but it really brought to my attention ways in which I have dealt with bullying were counter productive in some cases.

I really want to attend a RULER training. The speaker’s keynote really hit a note in me. I feel that a learner’s perspective on their learning is in direct correlation to their emotional state. I would like to learn more about helping them to be their best selves and Lear what it takes to become their best selves. I attended a session on how emotions transform in adolescence. And the RULER training would allow me to meet the emotional needs of the adolescents that I work with.

To really discuss situations with students when they have a certain behavior. Not to just get the behavior handled, but to help them understand where that behavior came from, why it happened and what we can do to help that behavior not happen again or less frequently.
