This method gave a much broader and more specific range of information than the questionnaire as you could actually get conversational with it, giving more in depth answers rather than just checking a box.

Interview allows you to expand more on any points made. Harder to carry out interviews as tricky to record information as person speaks. Questionnaires give more blunt answers. A combination of both are methods is best as it allows you to gather stats as well as detailed answers.

A) interviews were more useful for the research topic as the topic of holiday was more qualitative than quantitative in general. I suppose because my research question was aimed at the significance of the role of memories of holidays.
B) Interviews were easier and provided a greater insight into my research topic.
C) if i had a qualitative topic then the questionnaire would have been more useful.

Both methods gave similar information, while the interview results were far more indepth, the questionnaire gave data which was easier to interpret. The questionnaire was better as it gave more interpretable results quicker from more participants. The interview however was better for understanding participants reasoning behind their views as the questions were more open ended they gave more information.

Questionnaires are easier to complete and take less time but they offer a less comprehensive view making them good if you want a lot of responses with less personal detail but not as good if you want people's individual opinions and views. Generally, it's good to have a mix of both of the research methods.

a) Both provided similar answers in that they both showed people are less likely to holiday in the UK after travel restrictions have been removed. b) I feel that they complemented each other because the questionnaire provided raw bulk data while the interview allowed me to investigate more of the “why” behind it. c) The interview allowed me to go deeper into the different ways in which the COVID pandemic affected travel for the interviewee and the main reasons behind why they would prefer to holiday abroad.

The methods are only better depending on the research taken place, if you wanted a large sample to use for generalization and to gain data for analysis and comparisons then a questionnaire would be best, however, if you want to gain insight into a person’s experience or are using a very small sample that you want to gain information rather than use statistics on then a interview is best. The two can also complement each other using questionnaires to narrow down any interesting responses you want to look more into and can help narrow down the research for when interviews are conducted it can also provide different information within the research so you can collect the basic thoughts and answers people have as well as more in depth ideas creating a more whole dataset that can allow the larger image of what is being researched to be understood and used.

The questionnaire provided information that is easier to quantify, and it was also more representative as more people were involved, however, the interview provided more in depth answers and information and allowed me to ask follow up questions. I think both methods work well together as both have strengths and weaknesses, you can get more statistical data from questionnaires but more in depth data from interviews.
