Parental Period-5 Years

I chose to compare the differences between the websight childdevelopmentinfo.com and our textbook Lifespan and Development 15e. The first and most fundamental difference is that the book defines the first term of development as the prenatal period; when the baby is developing inside the parent, while the websight doesn't start describing development until birth. The book describes this period of development to take place over a nine month period and contains the development of the fetus. The book then goes to describe Infancy as the next stage of life, a time period of birth to 18-24 months. During this time the child begins developing body functions such as language use and motor control. The websight describes that this period is a period of discovery, not only for the parents but also for the child, where the parent discovers how to raise a child. They also provide links to how to act and what to expect in this period such as expert opinions, articles, and bonding tips.

The next period is described to tak place from 2-5 years (The web sight) and 3-5(The Book). During this period, both the book and the web sight describe that this as a period of self reliance, where the child learns how to become self sufficient

Middle and late childhood - Adolescence

The book and the web sight describe as this stage of their development as a period of achievements and learning, where parents encourage academic and athletic achievements. However the web sight describe that helping the child to learn their weakness is just as important as important as learning their strengths.

The next stage, Adolescence, is described on the web sight as troubling times, stirred on early by bad experiences in middle school because of troubling emotions and body changes. But these moods are often helped and positively influenced by parental involvement, by positive interactions and encouragement. The book describes all of the physical changes that develop during this period rather than the psychological development.

The web sight cuts off at this stage and the book describes early adulthood as a time period of 20-30 where the adult learns financial independence and searches for a mate to start a family.

The next stage Middle Adulthood starts around 40 and ends at 60. This stage the person discovers higher forms of responcibility, whether or not this occurs in their community, raising the next generation, or workplace.

The last stage, Late Adulthood, occurs from the age of 60-70 to death. This stage is a time of self reflection, retirement, and adjusting to dwindling life changes in health.
