Henry Flagler built a huge railroad in Florida. It all started when Henry Flagler visited St. Augustine. He loved the climate and land area so he wanted to make a hotel there. He would name it the Hotel Ponce De Leon. Since the builders needed supplies Flagler simply built a railroad to get them. It ran from Jacksonville to St. Augustine. Over the next nine years he extended it more south. Along the railroad he made other fancy hotels. In 1894 the railroad reached Palm Beach. He planned to stop there but a big freeze hit Palm Beach that winter so he changed his mind. He wanted to make it longer. Then Julia Tuttle had an idea so she offered him some of her land (because she was a landowner) if he brought the railroad to Miami and he agreed. In 1896 Flagler's railroad reached all the way to the Miami River. In 1912 his railroad reach all the way to Key West.
