Parental involvement is an essential role in the academic success of a child. Children follow the values of their parents, therefore, if the parents deem education valuable the students will also. Teachers can not do all the work needed for students to excel. Parents need to reinforce what students have learned in school, by helping them with homework , reviewing graded work, and helping them study and prepare for quizzes and test. This involvement will keep the parents thoroughly informed on the academic progress  of their child. It becomes difficult for parents to help their children academically as teaching methods change. Some methods used to teach math or reading are new to parents and some information has been forgotten from years of being out of school . Parents also find it difficult to be involved when they have a busy work schedule, especially in single parent homes. To aid the parents of these students, teachers and administrators should be more flexible.
