This Saturn 5 rocket is a culminative effort by hundreds of people using language to further our species as a whole. These people started out with no ability to communicate, to do math, or science. Yet over years of using language to speak and trade ideas, these men and women were able to create a vehicle to leave this planet.

Language allows you to travel and meet new people, to share ideas and learn of different customs. It opens up a world of culture and beautiful experiences. I have traveled all over the United States and different parts of Europe. The ability to go and experience a life style that is so different from yours is purely euphoric. I may not understand each and every language of each place I visit, but that doesn't change how amazing the trip is. It pushes me to learn more about the language and helps me understand the people better. 
I also view language as a way of personal expression. I love to write about my experiences and special moments in my life. It helps me reflect and stay grounded. After losing my mom to Brain Cancer in May I have a new found appreciation for all of my personal writings. They are now all my memories of her and I written down forever. It is the curiosity that rages in our heart and the cure for our thirst for knowledge. Language is the joy of understanding others and the frustration of not. It is how we understand ourselves and how we have been taught. Language is the path to leadership, breaking down barriers and building up relationships. However, it is not what language is to me but that language IS me. My language defines who I am and how I will be. I have always been interested in Japan since I was a child, and learning Japanese and studying abroad in Japan allowed me to make friends and do and see things I never would have experienced here in the US. Growing up it was always a dream, but the sense of accomplishment from having to do it is an amazing feeling.  It allows us to go past cultural differences and connect with one another, which to me is an important step to making the world a better place.
