There are not enough healthy red blood cells in the persons body. Red blood cells in someone who has Sickle Cell Anemia are not shaped properly therefore they cannot carry enough oxygen through the blood. Sickle cell anemia is from a mutation in the blood that causes the erythrocyte to change shape. Sickle cell anemia can cause many different problems.
