I believe sports do need to be involved in curriculum, but the curriculum should take in to account the abilities of the students and the grade they are in. For example, kindergarteners should not be playing four on four basketball. Although I believe that it shouldn't be the only thing or the main focus in a P.E class. I think that there should be certain times where sports are a part of the class. Also I don't think students should be graded on their ability to play the sport that they are participating in class. A lot of physical education in schools can be very independent. When kids don't have chance to learn teamwork outside of group projects, they won't understand how vital it is because school work can have unstable roles. Some people in a group project do all the work, some people do nothing, sometimes it all works out evenly. In sports no one is able to take a short cut and everyone must participate. I think that its important for students t learn not to take shortcuts. Sports were some of the most fun times in PE. Learning a new skill, and then getting to play a game to perform the new skill is a great time for everyone. I agree that there is a time and place though. Obviously, things should be modified for skill levels and abilities. Also, students should not graded on their abilities, but rather on their progression and efforts in classes.
