I was on a bunch of college visits and was able to travel a lot. I did a bunch of fun activities with my family like golfing, visiting the beach, and go cart racing. I enjoyed spending time on vacation in California with my family and spent a lot of time at dance intensives. I also began working on college applications and essays, which is both exciting and scary. At the end of the summer, I spent a week in downtown Pittsburgh working with Nepali refugee children, which was an amazing experience. Overall, I think I really grew as a person over the summer, as I got a first-hand experience of a completely different world that changed my perspective. In July I went to Niagara on the Lake in Canada with my mom, sister, and aunt. In August I visited Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Chico Hot Springs, Montana. We drove through Yellowstone national park and saw so many of the natural phenomenons; the hot springs were so interesting and we even got to see Old Faithful erupt. On the more academic side of things, I attended an ACT prep course and took a practice test as well. Even though this summer maybe wasn't exciting all the time, I'm still proud of the things I accomplished and the new places I had the opportunity to visit. I wouldn't say this was the best summer I have ever had but it certainly was not the worst I have ever had either. I planned on playing travel baseball for 2 months until I hurt my arm and had to stop for the summer, and I am still in the rehab process today. I ended up going to Maine with my family for 2 weeks, we do this trip once every three years and it is very relaxing with a lot of fun moments that really are not planned to happen. I did end up committing to play baseball in college at McDaniel College in Maryland and I am very excited about it. I taught my sister everything I know about high school as she is a freshman now and I had fun teaching her and scaring her a little bit. I'm excited for my senior year and even more excited to move on to college and into the real world. (Jacob Commens)

I enjoyed this a lot and it allowed me to spend more time with my friends. I also went to a couple different basketball camps and visited some college campuses. These camps and visits helped me learn to be more independent and it was good for me. In addition, I did some traveling with my family. In July, we went to the Bahamas and spent some time at the beach. After that, we flew to Atlantic Beach in North Carolina and visited with our extended family for a few weeks. I got a chance to catch up with my cousins who I did not get to see in a long time. It started off when I traveled to the University of Notre Dame for a leadership camp a week after school got out. It was my fourth year going to Notre Dame Vision and as always I has a great time. I got to see some of my old friends and make new ones. I was able to create memories and learn important life skills that will always help me in life. After I got back, a week and a half later, I took my annual family vacation to Las Vegas, Nevada. My family has been traveling there for about twenty years and I always look forward to the trip. We got to eat a lot of amazing food, see interesting shows, and bond with one another. A week after that I got to be a camp counselor at a kids church camp. I always love being a counselor because I get to be a role model for the kids. Showing them a great leader and how to be responsible is very crucial to their development. The other main thing I did this summer was babysit. A lot. I worked for four families and got to have such a great time with each kid. Babysitting has taught me a lot on how to be grateful and to cherish time. Also that life can be enjoyed even by the simplest things. I was a very busy but happy person over the summer. I would not have changed one thing about my summer. I got to be me and I got to grow on who I am. Overall, throughout the summer I got to explore more of who I am and continue to grow my skills as an individual. It was a great experience and a lot of fun, and helped me develop more patience. I also volunteered weekly at the National Aviary, working mainly as a docent, and I also assisted with the shows and feedings. In the beginning of June, I went to Chile for two weeks with my mom to visit our family. I volunteered to be a goalie for a couple ice hockey teams summer training camps. During one week, I did two different teams training camps. I was asked to be a goalie coach for a camp for little kids and teenagers. I got to spend time with Sidney Crosby and his younger sister. I helped out as a camp counselor at a hockey day camp for young kids. I babysat almost everyday, except the days that I was away on vacation. I went to Fenwick Beach, Delaware and I went to Michigan. I spent a week in both places with my families. My 8-hour babysitting days taught me about who I want to be after college: an elementary school teacher. I felt like I discovered myself this summer and became at ease with the plans for my future. I was able to spend some quality time with my family, whom I don't get to see very often. We traveled to many of historical landmarks around Udaipur, and explored the Udaipur as well. I learned what life was like hundreds of years ago, and how some people living in the area still live in a similar fashion. I also learned more about different religions during my travels to these villages. I think that being exposed to different cultures and beliefs makes me even more accepting and understanding. Sometimes it makes one think in a whole new different way. Every time I visit India or some other country and really see the daily lives of people, I find something amazing that I think I should somehow incorporate into my life. I've always had a passion for photography and this allowed me to grow in a new field.
