Healthy communications with families can be maintained by warmly greeting the parents each day and building their trusting relationships. Educators can respect families’ concerns, ideas and cultural values while keeping them informed about their child’s learning, behavior and daily. Using positive language, being honest and respecting confidentially helps families feel comfortable and included. Communication can happen through conversations, phone calls, notes, photos or family meetings.

Verna

One way we can maintain healthy communication with the families of children in the daycare is by speaking positively to the families when they drop off their children at the beginning of the day, pick them up at the end of the day. We can talk about how their child’s day went on the state of the child’s development. Another way we can maintain healthy communication is by sending pictures of the child through the Lillio app to the parents/guardians.

An example of me having a healthy communication is when a child’s parent came to pick them up, I told the parent a positive comment he made about another child, that he was complimenting another child. Then the parent was happy to hear that their child was learning to notice other children’s appearances and compliment them.

-Lisa

If they have a hard day there’s a behaviour column, update even if they have a good day can update that too. We can also tell in person at drop off or pick up time.
