         <description><![CDATA[<div>Yeast are small, unicellular, heterotrophs that are a type of fungi. It is a heterotroph because fungi rely on sugar found in their environment to give them energy to reproduce. Just like bacteria, yeast grow on or inside of their food source. Yeast make enzymes or digestive proteins and release them into the environment where there are sugar molecules. The sugar will break down into smaller molecules that will be absorbed by yeast and obtained for energy. The formula for yeast fermentation supports this. It is: 6CO2 = 26CH3CH2OH + 2CO2 + energy. </div><div>	In this equation glucose is being broken down as a reactant on the left side of the equation. Ethyl alcohol, carbon dioxide and energy are being produced as the products on the right side of the equation. The glucose is being broken into its components of CO2, ethyl alcohol and energy. To understand what is happening, the process of fermentation must be known. Fermentation is the release of energy from food molecules in the absence of oxygen.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

The ratio of sugar and yeast has to be equal. That is why the test tube with 0.5 teaspoons of  yeast made the most carbon dioxide because it also had  0.5 teaspoons of sugar.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fermentation is the process of releasing energy from food molecules in the absence of oxygen. Yeast are microscopic unicellular organisms that are heterotrophs in the family <em>Fungi</em>. They depend on other heterotrophs or other autotrophs to obtain energy. Some species of yeast feed on sugar molecules, others on wood and corn stalks, and some others even turn grains into alcohol. Yeast is popular in bakeries and is used in making bread, ethanol and making cakes fluffier. Ethanol is a possible alternative to the diesel and petrol we use for car fuels. When yeast send enzymes into the air to break down sugar molecules, the sugar molecules break into smaller parts so that the yeast can consume it. When the energy is consumed, the yeast give off carbon dioxide bubbles and ethyl alcohol, which are their waste products. These carbon dioxide molecules squeeze into the bread and cause it to rise. This makes the bread lighter. The alcohol, which is contained in the bread, evaporates when the bread is baked.</div>]]></description>
