Personally, even when I was still uncertain about the path I will take, I've always saw teaching as a profession built on empathy. Teachers must learn to empathize with their students to understand their needs and determine the best approach to build rapport.

Now, as a pre-service teacher, I recognize that beyond mastering the fundamentals of teaching, I must also develop the ability to put myself in my future learners' shoes. By doing so, I can create a meaningful connection with them, making my teaching more effective and impactful. After all, great teaching is not just about delivering lessons—it’s about understanding, guiding, and inspiring students to reach their full potential.

I think of empathy as an essential element of being a teacher, because it helps us understand and connect with students better. As a pre-service teacher, developing empathy allows me to be more patient, supportive, and responsive to students' needs. Empathy helps create a safe and inclusive learning environment where students feel heard and valued. By putting myself in their shoes, I can adapt my teaching approach to better support their growth and learning.

Empathy helps students feel safe, supported, and valued. I believe that a teacher shouldn't just focus on grades, they should also care about students' feelings and struggles. A kind and understanding teacher can make a big difference in a student’s life. Empathy makes learning better for everyone because when students feel that their teacher cares, they become more interested in learning. Most importantly, students are more comfortable asking questions and sharing their thoughts which will help students have a better understanding of what is being taught in class.

As a pre-service teacher, it's important to have a mindset that being a teacher goes beyond just plain teaching; it also comes with having a connection with your students. This is where the role of empathy comes. Empathy allows teachers to have a good connection with their students. Being able to empathize allows students to have a safe environment and be interactive instead of feeling fear towards their teacher. Therefore, with empathy, efficient teaching and learning can be achieved.

Empathy is the ability of an individual to relate his/her experiences based on the situation of other people. As a teacher, this means that we must be understanding and aware of the situation of our students. This includes acknowledging that there is a difference between the students academic knowledge and that of a professional teacher. Overall, empathy allows us to connect more deeply with our students, which can make the learning process more engaging and fun.
