Paper as a Material

When exploring this material I had chosen to use the thinnest type of paper in my space, tissue paper. This tissue paper has seen two of my birthdays, mothers Day this year, and my partner's Mums birthday. It has been responsible for wrapping and hiding the gifts gifted to loved ones. In today's session, I had to explore how the three pieces of tissue paper scrunched, folded, and clung on to each other, investigating its give and possible life after today's session. It makes a scrunching noise and is scrunched together and doesn't slowly open like printing paper.
Tissue paper is often thrown across a room whilst an excited individual is opening a gift from a loved one. Thrown out after 10 minutes of good looks or put in the cupboard to be reused one day not to see the light for many years afterward for the cupboard clean out. If used correctly this tissue paper has seen major events in a family, there to celebrate many occasions, tared, warn, scrunched and pulled only to give more life. Tissue paper is more than one-time use.

Hence the demand for reusable lids.

Yet because of this, many cafes and restaurants collect caps to recycle into community art spaces and kindergartens or donate to organisations such as Lids for Kids.

After working water into the clay and creating heat through my hands, the clay allowed movement, and was able to model and manipulate it into shapes
Although clay work was a rather fun memory of mine especially in primary school the texture of this particular clay as its air dry clay, I found it rather overwhelming when it came to the texture, it was drying into the lines on my palm and hands.
Yet as a material, I believe that clay is a great outlet for children who enjoy movements and connection with their materials in a studio space. It allows one to apply pressure and use their own mass and almost a scale of abilities with movement and manipulation of shape.

Sunsets have been an organic source of light that I have a connection to when it comes to place. I enjoy watching the colours and reflection of the colour on the water. I also enjoy how the sun slowly falls over the bay chnaging how landscapes and the environment around me change.
