         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 no 200<br></strong>The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act commenced in the year 1979, in order to prevent cruelty to animals and promote the welfare of animals by requiring a person in charge of an animal. <br><br></div><div>According to <strong>part 2, section 18 of the Act</strong>, animal baiting and fighting is prohibited. To prevent the purpose of conducting a ‘bull-fight’, baiting an animal or causing an animal to fight.  A maximum penalty of 250 penalty units (PU) in the case of corporation, and 50 PU or imprisonment for 6 months will be applied to those breaching this Act.</div><div>A Penalty Unit is the calculated amount that must be paid after breaching statute law under a certain Act. In New South Wales, each penalty unit is $110, however other states may differ. <br><br>This Act was breached on the 7th of March, 2017 by Benn Hamilton. He is considered the first person in South Australia who is responsible for baiting and organising dog fights. After raiding the property of Hamilton, a number vicious dogs, too aggressive for rehabilitation, and<br>a number of items were found that have potential to create a deadly animal. The items found include shock collars, anabolic steroids and had them on treadmills holding heavy weights. <br>Penalty units do not apply in South Australia however, Hamilton faces hefty penalties and could face a fine of $50,000 or four years of imprisonment. <br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Act 1979 No 200<br><br>An act for the prevention of cruelty to animals.<br><br>The purpose of the act is to prevent animal cruelty upon animals as well as promoting the welfare of animals. <br><br>Part 2 Section 5 - Cruelty to Animals<br><br>1) An individual must not perform an act of cruelty upon an animal.<br><br>2) If you posses an animal the act of cruelty must not be performed.<br><br>3) A individual that owns an animal shall not fail at anytime to:<br>a) care, control and supervise the animal to prevent the act of cruelty<br>b) take care of the animal when it is suffering from pain.<br>c) provide immediate treatment via Vets if needed.<br><br>Maximum penalty for the offence is 250 penalty units in the case of corporation and 50 Penalty units or improsinment for 6 months or both for the Individual.<br><br>A Penalty unit is used to calculate the amount payable for an individual who has found guilty of an offence.&nbsp;<br>1 Penalty Unit = $110 (NSW)<br><br></div>]]></description>
