She was in the Jewish underground in the Warsaw ghetto, she did this by pretending to be a Christian outside of the walls. She was fluent in Polish and had a typical “Aryan” look. She became a successful underground courier, she smuggled weapons over the wall to the Jewish Fighting Organization. Meed came to New York and rapidly started following the war and then in 1948 she finally released a memoir about all of her experiences so others could know about the truth. The memoir was titled “Sides of the Wall” but the book was all in Yiddish. She lectured about the Holocaust a lot and was always an active member in Holocaust education and memorlization. She was vice president in the Jewish Labor Committee, she also ran the Yiddish Cultural and Welfare Department for many years. She received many awards in her lifetime.
