Perhaps, next time, you can start the unit off with some vocabulary we can use in discussion (e.g. model minority, discrimination, words to describe people of color and minority groups in French, religion, sexuality, etc.)

I didn't mind what we did too much, but I am also quite aware that many other people felt very uncomfortable during some of the activities we had to do, which is never a good thing, especially when touching on these kinds of topics.

Bud: Looking forward to how the rest of this course will go!

One large thing that I really felt uncomfortable with was the term "people perceived as minorities". It doesn't matter if the majority of people in a room isn't white, or not, racism is ongoing and there will always be minorities. We have have the term, "People of Colour (POC)" which is widely recognized and used.

A lot of the discussions were informative, but the sense that I get from how the information was presented was that it was something new, when its been a long-since ongoing issue that's been brought to the light for many many years now. The intention was nice but it is also a bit insulting, as many of us have lived and experienced things which we then have to read through in articles.

The awareness of racism and the privilege is nice, but it doesn't work when not everyone is engaged or willing to share, and yet they're expected to (or there is the implication that they should), as well as this is a very heavy conversation topic and not entirely suited for us to do in French, as many of us lack the knowledge in the language to be able to say the things we want.

I think I times I was uncomfortable because I felt I did not have the best french vocabulary for this unit. The activity assuming the experience or write from the perspective of a POC actor was difficult and a bit uncomfortable because I am not a POC. I don't want to speak for that community and I haven't had similar experiences therefore, I feel like my response wouldn't be as accurate and I don't want to portray certain people/communities in the wrong way. Certain questions felt wrong answering them because I didn't want to say something in french that wasn't right/my place.
