Firing the thrusters would have caused the pod to move in the opposite direction if they exerted a force that was stronger than the object's motion. In order for an object to change direction, the force that is exerted must be very strong. If this force is exerted by the thrusters, it can cause the velocity of the pod to change. Instead of continuing in the same direction, it will go in the opposite direction. As a result, the pod would have turned away from the space station, rather than stopped.

Answer for Claim A
When using the thrusters to push in the opposite direction the pod would have attached to the shuttle instead of bouncing... which it didn't with opposing force and velocity the pod has no choice but to stay on the shuttle because of force and gravity

Answer for Claim B
The pod with a slower force wouldn't stick without extra attachments, with that being said all the lessened force caused was that it would be in range of pickup but it wouldn't attach or do what it was meant for... meaning Claim B is the plausible answer for why the pod bounced

Firing the thrusters would have caused the pod to move in the opposite direction if the theaters exerted a force stronger than the pod's motion. Therefore the cause of the pod's change in velocity and direction was the overwhelming exerted force. The effect of the overwhelming exerted force changing the pod's motion is the pod move in the other direction than the way it was supposed to go.
